Subject: RE: Geology Department
***,
As of this fall GEO 1103/1111 are no longer in the core curriculum. These courses are now part of the geology curriculum and intended primarily for geology majors. In past years GEO 1103 and GEO 1111 were separate courses and did not have to be taken together. However, under the new curriculum we require that they be taken together (just like all other lecture/lab courses in geology), but for students on older catalogs, we have waived this requirement. However, the student must be aware that the theory will be presented in GEO 1103, and the hands on practical application is done in the lab (we do not intend to re-lecture the material during the lab). For this reason students taking the lab without the lecture might be at a disadvantage. We tried to make this clear to students in the first meeting, but left it up to the individual students as to whether or not they continue with the lab.
Hope this helps.
