With the recent update of the UTSA Developmental Education Plan (dtd. 18 Oct, 2013), the Non-Course Based (NCB) Developmental Education Program is available to students achieving a Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) score result within a few points of the minimal passing score. NCB developmental instruction is coordinated through the Tomás River Center's Tutoring Services and offers students developmental classes in the areas of math, reading and writing. These fundamental classes teach life and academic skills through individualized instruction in a small group setting in preparation for college level courses and includes the following Goals & Objectives: * Provide students enrolled in NCB the skills and knowledge to succeed in college level courses * Provide students with additional resources and encourage their use outside of the classroom * Provide students with the skills and knowledge to become independent learners * Provide students with environment that promotes active learning of course materials. * Develop and encourage the use of critical thinking skills within and beyond the academic setting The enclosed table found within the UTSA Developmental Education Plan (Section VI.A.) lists the assignment criteria (TSIA scores) for students to be assigned to one of the following NCB Courses: Mathematics: NCB Course 0200 (Math Review for TSI); Reading: NCB Course 0300 (Writing Review for TSI); and Writing NCB Course 0300 (Writing Review for TSI) TSIA and Mandatory Placement SCORE PLACEMENT MATHEMATICS 000 - 324 MAT 0203 325 - 339 MAT 0213 340 - 349 NCB OPTION 350 - 400 Entry-Level Mathematics or Statistics Courses* READING 000 - 335 WRC 0203 336 - 350 NCB OPTION 351 - 400 Entry-Level Reading Courses (See III.E) Multiple Choice Scores WRITING 000-335** WRC 0203 336-362** NCB OPTION 363 - 400** WRC 1013 * MAT 1023, MAT 1033, MAT 1043, MAT 1073, STA 1043, and STA 1053 **A student scoring 5 on the essay test or a 4 on the essay test and at least 363 on the multiple choice test has satisfied the TSI Assessment standard in writing and may enroll in entry-level writing courses. Please remember that this is a free, non-credit bearing course for students when enrolling students in NCB and successful completion of the course fulfills TSI requirements. Banner down April 30

Due to the transition to PeopleSoft, OIT will shut Banner down on the evening of April 29, it will be down all day on April 30, and it will be restarted on the morning of May 1. You should still be able to access data through Global, but don't try to make any updates (e.g., clearing a hold), because updates won't work. Jimmy

TSI exempt student & intro math courses

As you know, there are new rules from the Coordinating Board that say that all students who are TSI met in Math are eligible to take any intro math course (MAT 1023, 1033, 1043, 1073, STA 1043, 1053) without having to make certain scores on placement tests or pass developmental math classes first. To implement this new policy, OIT has written a script that will read a student's TSI status, looking for codes in SZATXSI like TSIPRIOR, PRIVCOLL, NONTXCOL, etc., and if it finds that the student is TSI met in Math, it will write a score of 9 to SOATEST for a "test" called ZCRM. The prereq checker in Banner can read this test score and allow a student to register for the class. Similarly, the new TSI test administered by Testing Services is entered in SOATEST as TSI2, and a score of 350 or higher will allow students to register themselves for any of the intro math courses. This means that advisors will no longer need to set overrides for students who are TSI met in Math but couldn't previously register themselves for a math class. Jimmy

I have attached a copy of the revised form, a copy of the form with some arrows with key reminders and the notes Amy took at the meeting. Also, there is a job run nightly that sends the email to the students informing them they will be charged the excess fees. The email currently does not indicate the term that the charge will be effective so a programming request has been summited so it informs the student of the effective term. In SPACMNT, when a student's residency code is updated on SGASTDN due to the 30/45 credit hour limitation, the student is sent an email and a comment is placed on SPACMNT.
