Good Morning All,
I'm happy to announce that our own Vanessa Davalos Ledesma will be CEO of a new radio station scheduled to launch in August. As CEO, she will also be chief marketing and sales executive for the station. As you can imagine, this is a tough one for me, but please join me in congratulating Vanessa as she pursues the opportunity of a lifetime! Her last day with us will be Monday, July 7th and needless to say, our AHUM family will really miss her. Thanks for everything, Vanessa!

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for all the well wishes I have been receiving this morning. I plan to respond to each of your emails individually, however, for now I just wanted to say I am truly overwhelmed with all the love and support you have shown me. I have called UTSA home for over ten years, so this will definitely be a change for me. Just to answer some of your questions I currently bought the rights to a radio show called Halftime Sports. It will hopefully air in August and as you can guess my husband will be the co-host along with my partner Joe. This is a very exciting opportunity and I am so happy I can share it with all of you. As you can imagine this was not an easy decision, especially having an amazing boss in Joan, but I am finally ready to start my new journey. Thank you for all the memories :).
Love you all,
Vanessa

Re: [Advising] Non Course Based Option for TSI Students in Math, Reading, & Writing
by advising@lists.sis.utsa.edu
Hello everyone,
Below is some information from TRC Tutoring Services regarding the NCB program that is an option for students that are within a few point of the minimal TSI passing score.

Barbara,
Good Morning! I hope your summer is going well. As we are in the heart of the orientation season, would it be possible to send out the blow email to the advisors as a reminder on the NCB program?
Thanks & have a great week,
Cyndi
Good morning. With the recent update of the UTSA Developmental Education Plan (dtd. 18 Oct, 2013), the Non-Course Based (NCB) Developmental Education Program is available to students achieving a Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) score result within a few points of the minimal passing score. NCB developmental instruction is coordinated through the Tomás River Center's Tutoring Services and offers students developmental classes in the areas of math, reading and writing. These fundamental classes teach life and academic skills through individualized instruction in a small group setting in preparation for college level courses and includes the following Goals & Objectives:
* Provide students enrolled in NCB the skills and knowledge to succeed in college level courses
* Provide students with additional resources and encourage their use outside of the classroom
* Provide students with the skills and knowledge to become independent learners
* Provide students with environment that promotes active learning of course materials.
* Develop and encourage the use of critical thinking skills within and beyond the academic setting
The enclosed table found within the UTSA Developmental Education Plan (Section VI.A.) lists the assignment criteria (TSIA scores) for students to be assigned to one of the following NCB Courses: Mathematics: NCB Course 0200 (Math Review for TSI); Integrated Reading & Writing: NCB Course 0700 (IRW for TSI).

Health Professions Advising and Orientation important reminders this week.....
by advising@lists.sis.utsa.edu
Good Afternoon UTSA Advising Community,
I just wanted to send a friendly reminder to all UTSA advisors:
The University Health Professions Office (UHPO) advising staff will be out of town (starting tomorrow) from Tuesday, June 24th-Friday, June 27th for our national conference training. We will be returning to the office on Monday, June 30th. Our office will be open but advising appointments and walk-ins will not be available until our return.
UTSA Orientation and Family Programs office is aware of our absence and for this week only we will not available to present our "A UTSA Roadmap to Health Professions" (Tuesday, June 24th) breakout session and our Wednesday walk-ins (Wednesday, June 25th.) Our breakout session and weekly walk-in Wednesdays will resume next week. We please ask that UTSA advisors (for this week's freshman orientation group only) refer health professions interested (freshman) students to follow-up with our office starting next week and/or a future time before classes begin in August. We will be happy to assist them.
I do also want to announce that our office has been hard a work redesigning all of our UTSA health professions literature for all 11 areas that we directly advertise. This week we should have released on our website the literature sheets for Medical and Dental interested students. They are available to print from our office website this week. The remaining areas are still being finalized but we thank everyone in the community for their patience during this transition time. In the future, updated literature will be much faster once the redesigns are completed.
Thanks again to everyone for all of your help and referrals to our office. As always please let me know if we can assist further. Take care....
