Good morning Academic Advising Team,
I'm writing to provide everyone with an update regarding the reassigning of academic advisors. We had a total of 3 academic advisor positions that needed to be moved, 1 from Downtown Advising and 2 from Student Placement Advising (STPL).
I would like to thank all of the advisors that considered the reassignment and to the directors for being flexible in providing these advisors the opportunity to visit the receiving Centers. Based on this year's review, it has been decided that Jennifer Uranga from Downtown Advising will be reassigned to Life and Health Sciences Advising and the two, recently vacated, positions from STPL will be reassigned to Business Studies Advising.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this transition time.
Sincerely,
Barbara

Subject: Academic Advising Caseloads
Good afternoon Academic Advising Community,
As a centralized academic advising unit, we must make occasional changes to ensure we meet our mission of supporting the holistic development of students through the cultivation of trusting and collaborative mentoring relationships. Similarly, we must be able to guide our students in developing meaningful, personalized pathways toward academic success. In order to do this, we must ensure that there are manageable and equitable caseloads across advising centers.
As you may recall from the academic advising white paper and restructure, it was noted that we would assign and reassign advisors to centers to ensure a caseload of approximately 350:1. Since the restructure we have tried to manage the caseload numbers by reassigning positions as they became vacant or hiring academic advisors using temporary funds rather than moving advisors. This year in reviewing caseloads in SSC and generated internal reports, as well as recent graduation numbers and various college and/or department admission criteria, it has been determined that a limited number of advisors will need to be reassigned to another advising center to better equate caseloads. By moving advisors, all centers will have a caseload range of 310-370.
Not all centers will be affected this year and I have already met with those centers where staff will be moving from to ask for volunteers. If there are no volunteers, we will follow Human Resource's recommended practice of last one(s) hired being reassigned.
Below is a timeline for the changes:
Feb. 19th Deadline for individuals from affected centers to volunteer for reassignment
Feb. 22nd Individuals who are reassigned and the centers they are moving to will be notified
March 21st Reassigned advisors will be in their new location
Moving forward, every spring a caseload review will be conducted using the SSC caseload data and the protocol described above will be followed.
I appreciate everyone's patience with this process and continued commitment to supporting our students' success.

SSC Training update 2/19/16
by advising@lists.sis.utsa.edu
Dear All,
Monica & I have received numerous feedbacks and comments regarding SSC, which indicates that 'more and more' of you are regularly using SSC in your daily routine :) - Keep it up...
A question came up from LHSC advising about certain codes in term details screen, see screen shot
[cid:image001.png@01D16B2B.F2468A50]
These are actually instructional type codes from BANNER. Not sure if you will ever need these, but attached is the list with BANNER codes for instruction type and what they mean.
SSC training will continue next week. We are still working to get access for some advisors....
EAB/SSC Training by Center in NPB 1.412 unless otherwise noted:
February 22nd 9:30 - 11:30 - USSTS, SSS, 1 EGR advisor
February 23rd 1:30 - 3:00 - Athletics Advising, UHPO Advising, Honors Advising
February 26th 9:30 - 11:30 - Make-up session/refresher for all advisors JPL 3.02.38
March 7th 9:00 - 10:00 STPL refresher
March 8th 1:30 - 3:30 make up session/refresher for all advisors
You all have a good weekend!
