Degree Works \\ Course Information
by advising@lists.sis.utsa.edu
Good afternoon all,
There is a new feature in Degree Works. If you click on a still needed course, it will bring up information about the course such as the description, pre-requisites, attributes and also the course schedule.
[cid:image001.png@01D1DC4B.ABABB570][cid:image002.jpg@01D1DC4B.ABABB570]
[cid:image003.jpg@01D1DC4B.ABABB570]
You will notice that it also includes information for Spring 2017. We spoke to the Registrar's Office and the University Scheduling Committee about releasing the schedule earlier. They were okay with the Spring 2017 schedule being on Degree Works in this way at this point in time. In September, we will discuss being able to continue to have the future schedule in Degree Works when the department chairs have their next meeting.
There was concern about students feeling that having this schedule out will promise courses, when we all know they can change. When you meet with your students and check out the Spring 2017 schedule, especially for any course that only has one section open, please be sure and stress to them that the schedule is subject to change. The University Scheduling Committee said the Spring schedule should be 90%-95% set. We will also talk with OIT about seeing if it is possible to add some sort of verbiage about this to the course information.
In the future, should you continue to see any future terms in the course information on Degree Works, please remember that the further out we are from the future term, the more likely the schedule is subject to change.
This feature works in the worksheet and also in the plans tab. When you are in the plan, you can click on any underlined course in the Audit View, Notes View or Calendar View to get the course information.
[You can click on hyperlinked courses in the Planner to open course information (this is Notes View)][cid:image010.png@01D1DC4D.53FC9630][cid:image007.jpg@01D1DC4B.ABABB570]
Also, if you see in the course description above, there are the question marks instead of quotation marks around C- or better. The Registrar's Office is working on getting that to look right.
If you have any questions about this, please email DegreeWorks(a)utsa.edu<mailto:DegreeWorks@utsa.edu>.

Kenneth,
We've gotta deal with this and Tim Duncan retiring at the same time?!
Kidding. Good luck in your new position as director of the SAMA. Or whatever you're doing. :-p
Note: Students, please include your major and ID# (either one) in all correspondence.

Good Morning!
I hope this message finds each of you well.
I would like to first say that I have greatly appreciated and valued my time here at UTSA. I consider myself lucky to have had the chance to work with so many amazing people. My four years at UTSA have been a time of personal and professional growth that, without each of you, would not have otherwise been possible.
That being said - I am happy to announce that I was recently provided with a new opportunity outside of UTSA. I have decided to pursue this new opportunity and as a result, my last day at UTSA will be July 29, 2016.
I wish each and every one of you nothing but the best in the coming semesters (and in whatever the future holds). Again, it has been a pleasure getting to know and work with all of you over these last few years. I know that I will continue to hear positive things about Academic Advising and UTSA; both in the media and through the many friendships and collaborative relationships I have developed here.
Thank you all!

"I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming."
