SSC Hands-on Training sessions cancelled on Thursday 8/18/16

Dear All,
It appears that there is no need to have additional SSC Campus Hands-on Training sessions. Thus, we cancelled the Thursday sessions, especially as course registration is opening up for students that day and we will be busy.
In September the SSC Workflow team will meet again. At that time we will determine if additional formal training is needed beyond the Brown-Bag luncheons, which start in September.
Thank you all for your time and patience to familiarize yourselves with SSC Campus. Based on the questions and observations we are getting, you are actively using SSC Campus. You will see, in a couple of months 'we can't live without it anymore......'

Please let your advisors know that the deadline for early reinstatement petitions has been extended for those students in the L, S, T, and Early Bird summer 2016 terms. Grades will not roll for these terms until the afternoon of Wednesday, August 17th, thus the deadline for these students has been extended to the end of business on Thursday, August 18th.

I wanted to highlight a few important dates and provide some information to make Fall begin as smooth as possible!
* Registration will be closed from 5:00 pm, Friday, August 12 until 6:59 am Thursday, August 18
* Waitlisting will be closed during this time frame too
* Waitlisting notification times drop down to 12 hours beginning at 7:00 am Thursday, August 18 until August 19 (remember, no ADD forms processed on active waitlist courses)
* Payment deadline is Tuesday, August 16.
* Census is Thursday, September 8
* 20th class day is Tuesday, September 20
* 201630 degrees post September 2
* Commencement is December 17-18

Interest Groups Signups 2016-2017

Hello,
Based on the feedback we have gotten from the participants of the 2015-2016 Interest Groups, the AAC has decided to continue the program for the 2016-2017 year. As a reminder, the Interest Groups are advisor-lead committees that seek to brainstorm and implement ideas to improve advising. Each group has a special focus to prevent duplication of efforts. Ultimately, the number of groups offered will depend on how many advisors sign-up to participate. We are planning to offer the following four groups for the 2016-2017 year:
* Advisor Experience: Focuses on creating ideal conditions for advisors to improve recruitment and retention. Potential topics include: training & professional development, morale & recognition, and competitive compensation.
* Policies & Procedures: Focuses on clarifying policies and improving procedures. Potential topics include: clarifying catalog or information bulletin policies, streamlining processes to take as little time as possible and reduce confusion, and clarifying the roles of different offices in various processes.
* Special Populations: Focuses on how to best serve various student groups. Potential topics include: Academic Warning/Probation/Dismissal, the "Murky Middle", 1st-year students, Undeclared students, and 1st-generation students.
* Technology: Focuses on how to best use technology to support advising. Potential topics include: best practices that promote efficiency/effectiveness, identifying what advising needs technology to help with, and identifying specific tools or programs that could best help advising.
You can check the Interest Groups page<http://www.utsa.edu/aac/interestgroups.html> on the AAC website or the Interest Groups folder (located inside the AAC folder) on the I:drive for more information about the activities of the groups from the 2015-2016 year. This is not a mandatory program, but we are hoping to involve as many advisors and centers as possible. The groups meet monthly after the all-advisor meetings (the first Thursday of each month) from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM. Participants will be meeting from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM after the September 1st all-advisor meeting to discuss the goals, expectations, and organization of the groups, so please mark your calendars if you are interested in participating.
Please read the instructions on the signup form carefully so that the form can be completed successfully. If you are not interested in being a part of some of the groups, you will need to mark "N/A" for those groups. Also, if you are interested in being a Chair for a group, there will be an area for you to indicate your interest. When assigning members to the groups, the AAC will first consider advisor preferences, but they will also strive to balance center representation between the groups as best as possible. For the 2015-2016 year, all advisors that participated were placed in either their first or second choice group.

Graduating Student Transcripts for Summer 2016 only

This is an important message
During the week of 08/15 thru 08/19 I will not be available to scan and evaluate summer 2016 graduating student transcripts. I have asked Neva Hughes in Admissions and she has graciously said she will accept transcripts, scan and evaluate for the graduating class of summer 2016 only.
It is important when you send the transcript via campus mail or walk in, the transcripts must be address to her only and not to Admissions. If you receive an e-transcript please print the transcript and initial and date verifying it is official on the printed copy and send it to her only for processing. The printed copy will be scanned and evaluated.
If you send the transcripts to Admissions it will be imaged first and Neva will not know to evaluate the graduating student transcripts.
I will return on 08/22 where we can resume to our normal work flow.
