COEHD faculty, staff, students, spouses and children are invited
20th Annual Basura Bash Waterways Cleanup!
Basura Bash is a one day, all volunteer event to clean the San Antonio Watershed.
UTSA COEHD has been assigned the North Greenway of Leon Creek. We will meet in the parking lot of the Gun Club on Hausman Street. The gates into the Gun Club parking lot will open by 8:00 am, registration and light breakfast will be from 8:00 - 8:30 am. The COEHD will have a table for registration for all folks representing our college. We are to be in the creek bed for clean up by 9:00 am and should be finished by 11:00 am.
Bring gardening or work gloves and wear appropriate clothes for weather and getting dirty! Also, wear close-toed shoes to allow for walking in uneven terrain.
Please let me know if you think you would like to join us and if you have any questions! I will be there with graduate students from ILT. Join us for this great community service project!

What is the Texas Brigades?
The Texas Brigades is a wildlife-focused leadership development program for high school youth (ages 13-17). There are five different camps: Bobwhite Brigade, Buckskin Brigade, Bass Brigade, Waterfowl Brigade, and Ranch Brigade. You will be introduced to habitat management, hone your communication skills, and develop a land ethic. Top wildlife professionals and resource managers serve as instructors and mentors.
Each camp is 4 ½ days long.
The success of the Texas Brigades depends on both highly motivated youth (ages 13-17) and adult participants with a desire to further their wildlife knowledge and leadership skills.

Each camp is unique, but you will learn everything you ever wanted to know about deer, quail, bass, waterfowl, or sustainable beef production! You will study anatomy, biology, habitat management, population dynamics, conservation, watershed management, and more. In addition to a heaping dose of ecology, you will study photography, art, entomology, botany, fly-tying, firearm safety, and leadership skills. Every camp is fast-paced and filled with hands-on experiences, a wealth of information, camaraderie, and participation in professionally led management techniques and procedures.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN "LEADERSHIP SKILLS"?
Every person, no matter what profession you choose, must be able to think, plan, and communicate to succeed. Many of the activities at the Texas Brigades revolve around teambuilding and critical thinking.
IS THERE A FEE?
Yes, there is a tuition fee for cadets. The fee is $400, which covers meals, lodging, and supplies. Don't let money stop you from applying! We will help you find financial assistance.
The Adult Experience
[http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs123/1103225666226/img/224.jpg]We are looking for highly motivated individuals who are interested in the outdoors, wildlife, and natural resource conservation, who wish to share that interest with young adults.
An adult leader serves as a mentor, counselor, and guide for five or six teenagers (13-17 years of age) as they progress through the five day camp. As an adult leader, you will participate in all of the activities in which the cadets participate, some of which may be physically demanding. Experience in wildlife, fisheries, and/or animal agriculture is not required.
Immediate family members of youth (cadet) applicants may not be selected as an adult leader for the same camp as their cadet.
Teachers receive 40 hours SBEC credits

* Description: Fellowships support continuous full-time work for a period of six to twelve months. Successful applicants receive a stipend of $4,200 per month. The maximum stipend is $50,400 for a twelve-month period. Fellowships support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources in the humanities. Projects may be at any stage of development. NEH encourages submission of Fellowships applications from independent scholars and faculty at Hispanic-Serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Tribal Colleges and Universities.

* Description: This program supports individual faculty or staff members at Hispanic-Serving Institutions pursuing research of value to humanities scholars, students, or general audiences. Awards are designed to be flexible, allowing applicants to define the audience, type of research, award periods, and administrative arrangements that best fit their projects. Awards can be used for a wide range of projects that are based on humanities research. Eligible projects include pursuing research in primary and secondary materials; producing articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources; and conducting basic research leading to the improvement of an existing undergraduate course or the achievement of institutional or community research goals.

Mark your calendar for the Undergraduate Research and Inquiry Campus-wide Showcase that Donovan Fogt and I are working on. This is the First ever Showcase of this nature, designed to stimulate and promote Research!
Note the Deadline for submitting applications is April 11, 2014 and the event is April 24, 2014, UC, 10:00 a.m.
to 3:00 p.m.
This will include research projects from students from across the Colleges of the University.
We hope to have College of Education and Human Development representation so that others across the University realize that we, too, are creative researchers and determined to discover new knowledge!
