The Memo from the Provost, Regalia Rental information and Faculty Response Card are attached for your review and response to the Dean's Office, Attention: Denise Garcia, by Monday, March 30. It is important to return the response card if you will be attending Commencement.
Commencement will be divided into three ceremonies. You will be expected to attend only the ceremony on Saturday, May 9 at 10:00 a.m.

Last year my undergraduates participated in the Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry Showcase.
It was a fabulous opportunity for them!
I encourage you to invite students to participate as presenters or even to attend as an observer. The Showcase
includes research from across the entire University and is a panoramic view of what is transpiring at UTSA as
we become a Tier I Research Institution and a model for the country.
It also helps our undergraduates understand what research is about and why it matters.
Please let me know if I can help. This is a way of also showcasing the ongoing research in our College.

The 2015 Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry Showcase Is Coming
This annual event will showcase hundreds of undergraduate student research and creative endeavors from across campus. The event is meant to increase visibility of and participation in undergraduate scholarly endeavors across all areas of academic inquiry. Such scholarly experiences enhance learning by complementing classroom-based instruction, provide real-life, hands-on experience in student's field of interest, and offer development of critical and independent thinking, creativity, and problem solving.
The UTSA Career Center is helping with a resume review booth as well as organizing a "reverse job fair" where industry and business members will peruse the posters for possible hires.
If you know of an undergraduate student performing research or is working on a creative endeavor in any area of study, forward them this email and encourage them to participate!

NCER Announces Summer Research Training Institute on Cluster-Randomized Trials
The National Center for Education Research, within the Institute of Education Sciences, announces its ninth Summer Research Training Institute on Cluster-Randomized Trials (CRT). The purpose of this training is to prepare current education researchers to plan, design, conduct, and interpret CRTs in order to rigorously evaluate the impact of education interventions.

In a public lecture here Tuesday evening, Gallaudet University assistant professor Catherine O’Brien was sharply critical of how deaf children are educated in the United States, saying school districts should re-examine how they culturally approach teaching the deaf, especially those in minority groups such as Mexican-Americans.

Dear UTSA faculty and Staff,
The Global LEAD Conference will finally be here next Thursday, March 26th at the HEB UC ballroom from 9-530pm. Dr. Machado-Casas and the entire Global LEAD staff are cordially inviting you and your classes to join us for this important discussion and summit. Our morning welcome includes, our President Dr. Ricardo Romo, Our Mayor Ivy Taylor, and our Honorary Chairs for the event are: Dr. Ellen Riojas Clark , Vicky Carr, and Secretary Julián Castro.
Our morning keynote panel includes ministers of education from Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica who will discuss local issues around education in Latin America and will be moderated by Arantxa Loizaga from the Syndicated Univision station.
The following panel discussions will be presented during the event:
11:05 am The US Business Development Center as a model of collaboration between the U.S. and Latin America
12:05 pm Academic collaborations in international settings: Equity and quality in education through STEM Education
2:00 pm Mesoamerican Mathematical Model, The structure of a way of thinking and living in Time
3:00 pm The Role of UTSA Mexico Center in Establishing Collaborations
4:50 pm Globalization and interinstitutional collaborations in higher education for scientific and technological development
The afternoon keynote speaker is Actor Tony Plana from the Show “Ugly Betty” who will deliver the keynote address regarding Arts and Education .

The Student Center for Community Engagement and Inclusion is seeking nominations for a variety of awards.
The deadline for all nominations and applications is April 15, 2015.
UJIMA Awards
The UJIMA Awards will be given to students whose leadership actions best match the UJIMA principles of Collective Work and Responsibility. This award recognizes the student who best applies these principles to enhance the experience of African American and Black students during their matriculation at UTSA.
The Awards are presented to the African American or Black students who best serve UTSA as leaders of an organization or event, maintain a Good Academic Standing and exemplify a positive character and encouraging attitude.

This award will honor a deserving UTSA student who has shown strong Leadership Skills. Nominees must:
- Be of African or African American ethnic origin

- Be in Good Academic Standing (cumulative g.p.a. of 3.0 or better)
- Attend the UJIMA Ceremony on Tuesday April 28, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the HUC Ballroom 1

- Identify as GLBTQ or Ally
- Be a currently enrolled student at UTSA

- Be in Good Academic Standing (cumulative g.p.a. of 3.0 or better)
- Attend Lavender Graduation Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the UC Denman Room.

The Student Center for Community Engagement and Inclusion at UTSA along with generous donors, work toward a different world for the many diverse student groups on our campus. We believe that every student should have access to exceptional opportunities that allow them to rise to their full educational and professional potential. The GLBTQ Scholarship is one of the ways that we support student groups on campus.
To be eligible for a GLBTQ Scholarship you must meet the following criteria:
* Current undergraduates must be enrolled on a full-time basis (at least 12 hours) or current graduate students must be enrolled in at least six hours.
* Undergraduate and Graduate students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
* Recipients must be active members of Spectrum, the GLBTQ student organization
* Recipients must be in good disciplinary standing with the university

Community Conversations on Race and Education II

The African American Studies Program presents Community Conversations on Race and Education II featuring Dr. Denise Taliaferro Baszile, Associate Professor and Director, Diversity Initiatives, Miami University (OH). Dr. Taliaferro Baszile will provide a guest lecture entitled "Where is the Love? Some Thoughts on Educating for Social Justice In/Through/Against Academia".
This event will take place Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 6 pm to 8:30 pm in the Peter T. Flawn Science Building , 2.03.12.
The guest lecture will be followed by a panel discussion. Panelists are Dr. Janee Avent, Assistant Professor, Department of Counseling, ReAnna S. Roby, Doctoral Fellow, Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching, TaSonia Hendrix, Wells Fargo, and Anna Frederick, Curriculum Specialist (Special Education), San Antonio ISD.
