COEHD Awards of Excellence

The College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) is excited to host its first COEHD Evening of Excellence on May 7th. This event will provide an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the impact and contributions of those connected with the COEHD community.
During this event we will be announcing our COEHD Award of Excellence recipients. The purpose of these awards is to recognize the leadership, dedication, and contributions of those connected with the COEHD community. The categories for the awards are:
* Community Impact to recognize individuals in the community who have provided leadership and made contributions to the public good. The award recognizes efforts to continually contribute to the community and create connections between the university and community to provide an impact. Nominees for this award do not have to be from within the immediate COEHD community.
* Faculty Excellence to recognize faculty who are actively engaged in their respective fields through research, teaching, community engagement, and service. These faculty have worked effortlessly to make significant contributions in their respective fields.
* Distinguished Alumni to honor graduates who have embodied the college’s commitment to establish a global benchmark for fostering inclusive and transformative leadership. Recognizes the contributions and impact of alumni from COEHD in their professional pursuits and toward their organizations, professions, communities, the university, and/or the college.
* Student Excellence to honor the achievements and contributions of current undergraduate and graduate COEHD students who are using their skills and knowledge to make an impact in the community within their respective fields.
* Staff Excellence to recognize the work of the COEHD staff who strive to support the success of students across the college. These staff model the values of the college and demonstrated initiative, teamwork, and collaboration in their efforts.
* Partner of the Year to honor partners with the college who have made contributions that have supported the college to achieve their mission and goals. Recognizes the contributions and impact of these partners within the community to promote higher education in the fields of education and human development.
We invite you to nominate individuals for these awards who demonstrate the values of the college and university and are committed to making contributions in their respective fields. Please also share this announcement with your partners and educators that you work with. Winners will be recognized at the COEHD Gala and will be invited to bring one guest with them. 17th Annual COEHD Research Colloquium

We hope this message finds you well. The 17th Annual COEHD Research Colloquium is taking place on Tuesday, February 25 from 3-6 pm in the HEB Ballroom on the Main Campus. The theme for this year’s colloquium is “Developing a Vision for Research in Higher Education: Contributions to Cultures, Communities, and Human Development”.
This event will showcase research sessions and poster presentations from students and faculty across various colleges and disciplines, followed by a buffet reception.
The event will feature a prerecorded video message with opening remarks from Mayor Ron Nirenberg, Mayor of San Antonio, followed by a keynote address by Isabel Martínez, Associate Professor and Director of Latinx, Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Northeastern University.
Keynote Address Details
Title: “Hope and Humanity in Uncertain Times: Leveraging Transformative Higher Education Research for a ‘Glocal’ Citizenry”
Description: Despite the rapid and tumultuous shocks that are currently impacting higher education, it is imperative that higher education researchers stay the course and engage in research that promotes justice and equality for all. Our research must not only be relevant but be understood as essential for the development of an educated, glocal citizenry. This talk urges us to seize this moment and create opportunities to reimagine higher education research in ways that truly advance our society towards expanded access and liberation.

I am so very sad to hear this news, Heather. Pat was an amazing woman—bright, thoughtful, kind, and truly compassionate. We were fortunate that she graced us and our students with her presence for so many years!

MAS Teachers' Academy Know Your Rights Workshop

You are cordially invited to next week's Know Your Rights Workshop organized by the MAS Teachers' Academy in collaboration with MAS teachers and community advocates of Yanawana/San Antonio.
This workshop will take place next Saturday, February 22 from 9 a.m. - 1p.m at La Villita Room, Durango Building, and is open to Pre-K educators, faculty, school leaders, and clinical teachers. Our workshop will include a Know Your Rights session, teacher-led curriculum workshops, a light breakfast and lunch, and resources.
