Good Afternoon, COEHD Colleagues,
I hope everyone has had a wonderful week!
Dr. Claudia Treviño Garcia and I will be presenting this Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the San Antonio Independent School District's Siempre Bilingüe Conference if you would like to join us virtually! We will be presenting on the culturally efficacious framework's application to dual language campus leadership.
Leaders supporting teachers’ cultural efficacy development: Strategies to sustain a dual language program
9:30 AM to 10:15 AM
Principals are necessary for the successful development and implementation of dual language programs. This informational session is for campus leaders to learn about Flores, Claeys’ and Gist’s (2018) four critical and culturally efficacious strategies and how to implement these strategies as a framework for sustaining a dual language program. The presenters will share specific recommendations that align to the 80/20 dual language program model, emphasize translanguaging strategies, elevate sociocultural competence, and celebrate biliteracy and bilingualism.

January 2023 Issue of Research Development & Grant Writing Newsletter
by Iwan Notowidigdo
Greetings Colleagues,
I am forwarding the January 2023 Research Development & Grant Writing Newsletter by Academic Research Funding Strategies, LLC. The newsletter is provided through a subscription by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Economic Development, and Knowledge Enterprise (REDKE) solely for the use of the UTSA community. Although you may share it with your students, please do not post it on a public website or disseminate it outside the UTSA community.
There are a couple of articles and features in this issue that may be of current interest:
The article on the NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) program on pp. 14-26 gives a thorough overview of all the parts that go into applying for that competition and features advice that may be extrapolated to other NSF applications.
An article on data management and sharing (DMS) sections for proposals may be extended to different proposals. On pp. 46-47, changes to NIH’s DMS requirements.
On pp. 48-49 are steps for applying to the US Department of Education Institute for Educational Sciences for an unsolicited grant (i.e., a grant with a research area not in the current funding slate).
There are also interesting articles on plagiarism, responding to a Broad Agency Announcement, and moving beyond the "why" of a proposal to the "how" the proposed grant to meet reviewers’ expectations.
If you would like to discuss any of the information in the newsletter in preparation for a grant submission, please let me know.
Thank you.

https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2023/nsf23037/nsf23037.jsp
NSF GRANTED (Growing Research Access for Nationally Transformative Equity and Diversity) provides up to $100,000 for proposed activities designed to enhancing practices and processes within the research enterprise, strengthening the research enterprise workforce, and partnering with national and regional professional societies to translate effective practices into diverse institutional and organizational contexts. The proposed conferences should bring together a diverse array of stakeholders with the goal to convene, build, and energize communities to help shape future GRANTED funding opportunities and be better prepared to submit ambitious proposals in response to those calls.
The deadline for proposals is March 15, 2023. A recording of an information NSF GRANTED webinar will be available shortly. Please contact me or Dr. Bonner if you are interested in this opportunity.
