HEB is hosting their annual Feast of Sharing from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. also in the convention center, so please allow extra time for your travels to and from the ceremony.

Students, faculty, staff, and community members gathered in the Business Building on Monday, December 8, for the African American Culture, Leadership and Social Issues class, taught by Dr. Dorinda Rolle. The class, which hosted the Consortium for Social Transformation and the African American Studies Program’s first event in their Beyond February speaker series, featured a presentation from Tuskegee Airmen Inc. Central Region President, Marv Abrams, and two Tuskegee Airmen, Dr. Eugene Derricotte, USAF Col. (Ret.), and Mr. James Bynum, USAF Senior Master Sergeant (Ret.).

Trinity University and the City of San Antonio MLK Jr. Commission present the MLK Jr. commemorative lecture by anti-racist essayist, author, and educator TIM WISE<http://timwise.org> on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in Laurie Auditorium.
Tim Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and educators in the United States. Recently named one of "25 Visionaries Who are Changing Your World" by Utne Reader, Wise has spoken in all 50 states, on over 800 college and high school campuses, and to community groups across the nation. The 2001 British Diversity Awardee for best feature essay on race issues, Wise is the author of six books and is one of several persons featured in White Men Challenging Racism: Thirty-Five Personal Stories. Wise has provided anti-racism training to teachers, journalists, government officials, and medical personnel, and has served as a consultant for plaintiff's attorneys in federal discrimination cases. He has appeared on hundreds of radio and television programs, and is a regular scholarly and academic contributor to discussions about race.
Trinity University would like to invite UTSA's community to join us to hear Tim Wise speak about the legacy of Dr. King and today's civil rights struggle. The event is free and open to the public.

Diego Mancha is a Mexican American Studies student at The University of Texas at San Antonio. His mother brought him to this country illegally as a child. About two years ago, Diego was granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals — or DACA — status. He says it changed his life.

(MEDICAL NEWS TODAY) - Over the past thirty years, physical activity among children has declined markedly. The public health implications of this decline include a growing prevalence of obesity and chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. A new issue of Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development expands the focus to ask whether physical activity is also related to children's brain and cognitive development and achievement in school. Scholarly articles published by over 20 researchers in Monographs, titled "The Relation of Childhood Physical Activity to Brain Health, Cognition and Scholastic Achievement" indicate that while physical activity in schools has diminished in part because of a growing emphasis on student performance and academic testing, decreased physical activity is actually related to decreased academic performance.

(TEXAS PUBLIC RADIO) - Brackenridge High School will soon debut an elite first for the San Antonio region — it will contain an early college high school, one that would provide its students with the opportunity to earn an Associates’ degree or get 60 hours of college credit prior to graduating school. However, unlike its fellow ECHS providers, it will still retain all the staples of traditional high school life, like athletics, and football.

Diego Mancha is a Mexican American Studies student at The University of Texas at San Antonio. His mother brought him to this country illegally as a child. About two years ago, Diego was granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals — or DACA — status. He says it changed his life.

World AIDS day is not only a time to reflect on the disease and those we have lost to it, but is also an opportunity to look forward to the end of the HIV epidemic through new preventive measures and hopefully, one day, a cure. Approximately 35 million people are currently living with HIV worldwide, with over two million individuals becoming infected each year.

(TPR NEWS) - A middle school in the South San Antonio Independent School District will have to hire a completely new team of teachers, after it failed to meet state standards for more than two years. South San’s Dwight Middle School has had an ‘Improvement Required’ rating from the Texas Education Agency for two years and now has to go through a formal reconstitution process. While that term means something different for each school, South San District Communications Director, Ed Suarez, said for Dwight that meant that all 33 teachers, the Principal, and the Vice Principal, would be let go.
