The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) will be hosting its annual Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry Showcase on April 19, 2018, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the UTSA Convocation Center.
This annual event will showcase hundreds of undergraduate student research and creative endeavors from all disciplines across campus. The event is meant to increase visibility of and participation in undergraduate scholarly endeavors across all areas of academic inquiry. Such scholarly experiences enhance learning by complementing classroom-based instruction, provide real-life, hands-on experience in student’s field of interest, and offer development of critical and independent thinking, creativity, and problem solving.
The registration deadline has been extended to April 1st, 2018.

We are excited to announce that we are now accepting abstracts for the 2018 Transforming Care Conference! The deadline to submit is May 7th, 2018! Notification of proposal acceptance will occur in mid-June.
We have chosen the theme Fighting for our Lives to pay homage to the work of advocates in the past and to highlight the urgent need to stand up, speak up, and fight for our fundamental rights through advocacy, activism, providing and obtaining comprehensive health care for our community, and standing in solidarity with all marginalized communities.
Abstracts must fit into one of the following tracks:
* Mental and behavioral health
* Access to Care
* Cultural Competency and Cultural Humility
* Advocacy and Community Engagement
* Clinical/Medical
* Public Health/Prevention
* Holistic Health Activities (i.e., meditation, yoga, aromatherapy, poetry)

Dear Colleagues,
The African American Studies program is proud of having Dr. Ramona Pittman as our Visiting Research Scholar for the Spring 2018 Semester. Dr. Ramona T. Pittman is an associate professor in the Department of Educator and Leadership Preparation at the Texas A&M University at San Antonio. Her research interests include: literacy development, spelling, preservice teachers' literacy knowledge, and literacy outcomes for African American students.
Next week, we'll have Dr. Ramona Pittman on UTSA campus to present: Why Do "They" Talk like That: The Roots of African American English and how It Affects Students' Reading, Writing, and Speaking Abilities. Please share this event information with your students and friends.

COEHD scholarships for students in teaching degrees at the Elementary, middle school and high school levels, and School Counseling, Principalship and Superintendent tracks are currently open. The application deadline is this coming Friday, March 30, 2018.
