COEHD Associate Dean for Undergraduate Student Success

Dear Colleagues,
Please join me in wishing Dr. Janis Harmon congratulations and the best of luck. She has decided to step down from her role as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Student Success.
Dr. Harmon's service to the COEHD in this capacity has been of the most exemplary quality, and her efforts have created opportunities for success for our students. For the past few years she had worn two hats (all while never taking any course release time for her work in this administrative role), assuming the duties of Associate Dean for Teacher Education, until Dr. Flores assumed the role of Associate Dean for Professional Preparation, Assessment, and Accreditation.
I will miss Janis' incredible energy, innovation, and 'can-do' approach to undergraduate student success, and I look forward to her continued council as we make the transition her stepping down will trigger.
I can't think of a better role model, scholar, educator, or colleague, and I know that she leaves very big shoes to fill.
I will be sending a call for applications for this position and we hope to have it filled by the middle of end of April, as per Dr. Harmon's request.

Are there any funds available for faculty or student travel?
I would consider presenting if there were travel funds. Increasing our travel funding
would be a great help for many and, of course, our presence and visibility as an institution

They are very interested in engagement with UTSA and COEHD, and one potential area where we can collaborate is around professional development for their volunteers. The volunteers are required to engage in 1 hours of PD annually, and currently they provide this in house. They are interested in possible workshops by COEHD faculty on topics that could they suggested could be included:
- What to expect at an annual IEP review meeting
- Dealing with substance abuse in families/ understanding the effects of substance abuse
-Navigating the school records review: what to look for and how to interpret it
- Early Childhood Development
-Adolescent Development
-Effects of abuse and neglect
-Cultural Diversity

Daylight saving time begins this Sunday, March 11 at 2 a.m. across the United States with the exception of Arizona (except for the Navajo, who do observe daylight saving time on tribal lands), Hawaii, and the overseas territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands.
Main Campus Steam Outage Scheduled for March 15th<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/main_campus_steam_...>
Steam supply to the ART, BB, BOS, BSB, BSE, CC, EB, FLN, JPL, MB, MH, MS, PE, RWC and Student Union (UC) will be shut down from 12:01 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018 for steam piping work related to the installation of the new NTEP boilers. The outage will affect comfort heating (except BSE), domestic hot water for dishwashing, washing machines, showers, cage washers and autoclaves. Anna López, an NMSU assistant professor in counseling and educational psychology, with the María Gutiérrez-Spencer Hispanic Heritage Award.López received both her undergraduate and graduate degree at NMSU. She then went on to receive her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of Texas at San Antonio and returned to her alma mater in 2012 as an assistant professor.
