Extended deadline to Monday (4/5) for COEHD Spring 2021 Reciprocal Mentoring Proposal incentive

Dear COEHD Colleagues,
I am re-attaching the call for “Letters of Intent”(LOI) for the COEHD 2021 Faculty mentoring incentive award, which was to be due tomorrow 4/1.
I’d like to extend the submission deadline until Monday, April 5th at noon (instead of tomorrow), just to give any of you working on a LOI the rest of the week and weekend to finish it.
As a reminder, this is an incentive to encourage cross-rank, cross-college/department collaborations to develop and submit a large-scale research proposal. Faculty who submit a LOI are under no obligation to follow through with the proposal submission, but if their LOI is selected and they do submit the proposal to the funder this summer as planned, those faculty members will be awarded a share of each award’s $3,000 incentive pool of funds that they can use for various research related costs (separate from the planned project).
Two additional points that may be helpful—Many calls for proposals with due dates from May to August of 2021 may not yet be formally distributed, but many funders, such as IES, NIH, NSF, etc., can be expected to re-issue calls for the same general proposals, and so LOIs for this summer’s proposals can be written using the calls from last summer’s proposals (with the assumption that the same or very similar calls for proposals will be announced in the coming weeks or months).
Second, Letters of Intent are simply a summary of the goals of the planned proposal—just enough to reveal what each faculty member brings uniquely to the proposed collaboration—and how each can help mentor the other through their complementary skills, training, topical knowledge, or prior experience. Don’t be intimidated by the 5-8 page length. A few page summary of the project followed by details addressing points b-d below will quickly and easily fill that. I’ve pasted the summary description of what is to be included in the LOI (or application).
Finally, as described by Dr. Bonner in her email of 2/24/21, there are still 2 priority areas for funding, but the range of topics has been expanded beyond those two areas, and the possibility of reciprocal mentoring by faculty of similar ranks also is acceptable. The goal is just to show the value of your collaboration to the field and the way in which the researchers will complement one another to form a winning proposal.

Your SFRM Letter of Intent application should consist of the following three sections: Cover Page, Project Narrative, and Vitae. Submit by email to COEHDFacultyResearch(a)utsa.edu<mailto:COEHDFacultyResearch@utsa.edu>, not through CAYUSE.
A complete Letter of Intent application includes the following components:
1. A Project Narrative: A five-to-eight page description addressing: (a) what the call for funding supports (including funder, due date, and anticipated total funding), and how the faculty members involved can bring unique skills and expertise to address the funder’s priorities, including a summary of the research questions to be explored and research methodology (identifying research methods and activities to be undertaken, the role of each faculty in the project), and potential opportunities for disseminating findings, influencing practice, or addressing key problems in society/practice; (b) plan for a meaningful mentoring relationship, including time commitment from mentors; how each will contribute to the proposed research plan and research study; (c) a formal commitment to submit a competitive grant proposal and resubmit if declined; (d) any additional information you want to convey about the value of this mentoring collaboration and possibility for future partnerships.
(Format: 11 pt. or 12 pt. Times New Roman or Arial font; 1.5 space, margins of at least ½ inch)
