The title of the Research Colloquium is Artificial Intelligence versus The Authentic Mind: Challenges, Obstacles, and Opportunities for Academic Learning in the Disciplines. The Colloquium will include a range of research talks and demonstrations in the form of roundtables, posters, panels, and a keynote across all stages of education—from Undergraduate to Postdoctoral. Please consider submitting a proposal yourself or supporting your students to submit a proposal. A flyer with more details regarding the submission of proposals is attached as well as a general flyer for the Colloquium. Update on Lighting Issues at Downtown Campus

Dear COEHD Faculty and Staff, Please see the message below from Josh Gerken, UT San Antonio Associate Vice President, Assets Management, regarding lighting concerns at the Downtown Campus. — The Downtown Facilities Team has been working to address this. We found some issues in the underground power loop feeding the lights, that to my knowledge have now been completed. There was an issue with the lights in the garage are that were on a different timer schedule (for reasons unknown) that have now been adjusted to an earlier time. Unfortunately, around the garage and the ramps are going to take a little longer to restore higher light levels to this area. As a part of the structural repair for the downtown garage, we had to remove the old canopy. That canopy had lighting on it that used to illuminate these areas more. As a part of the project, we are going to add additional wall pack lights to get better coverage of light at night time. That will take a little for the completion of this project. Announcement: Consolidation of BBL and REGSS Departments

Dear COEHD Faculty and Staff, Earlier today, I met with faculty and staff from the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies and the Department of Race, Ethnicity, Gender and Sexuality Studies to share the news that these two departments will be consolidated into a single, unified department. The reorganization will take effect on September 1, 2026. This transition represents an exciting opportunity for the college. By bridging these departments together, we expand the potential for innovative programming, strengthen research collaborations, enhance graduate advising and mentorship, and support a healthier long-term financial outlook. This alignment ensures a more prosperous future for our academic programs and the college. As with any organizational change, I know many of you may have questions about what this means for your roles, our programs, and our students. At this time, no changes to faculty or staff positions, reporting structures, or job responsibilities are planned. Academic programs will continue as usual, and students will have the same access to their courses, advisors, and degree pathways. To facilitate this transition, the impacted departments will form a task force comprised of faculty, staff, and students representative of both departments. This group will help shape the unified department's mission, identity, and structure. Transparency will remain a priority throughout this process. The committee and I will share regular updates with the COEHD community so everyone can remain informed. All COEHD students will be notified about this reorganization on Tuesday, January 20. 18th COEHD Research Colloquium (2/25)

Good morning COEHD, The 18th College of Education and Human Development Research Colloquium will be held on Wednesday, February 25th 2026, at the UT San Antonio Main Campus in the HEB Ballroom from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. This year’s program will be larger and richer than ever, important for our Institution, the Colleges, and Departments in which we work and for building and sustaining research growth, and we are excited to invite local districts and schools to participate. The title of the Research Colloquium is Artificial Intelligence versus The Authentic Mind: Challenges, Obstacles, and Opportunities for Academic Learning in the Disciplines. The Colloquium will include a range of research talks and demonstrations in the form of roundtables, posters, panels, and a keynote across all stages of education—from Undergraduate to Postdoctoral. I invite you consider presenting your research at the Colloquium or encouraging the students you work with to present their research. The research does not need to focus on AI and can be at any stage of development. Benefits to students who present: * It increases professional credibility. Students can include this Colloquium on their resume which may help with job pursuits and leadership roles. * Gather feedback from experts and others to improve the work. * Provides an opportunity to network and collaborate with other researchers both within and outside their fields. * Improves critical thinking and communication skills.
