COEHD Faculty, After reading an email, we should always have the mindset of “is this email legit?, do I know this person?, what email address is it coming from?” This is where the phrase STOP.LOOK.THINK comes in! There is a GMAIL account named Dept.Chair341 that was created by Hackers for a phishing attack - to gain information. It is being sent to all faculty to get your cellphone number. DO NOT RESPOND. The message looks similar to: From: Thelma Duffey <dept.chair341(a)gmail.com> Subject: [EXTERNAL] Date: February 18, 2021 at 2:46:24 PM CST **EXTERNAL EMAIL** This email originated outside of The University of Texas at San Antonio. Please exercise caution when clicking on links or opening attachments. Available, cellphone number? Best regards So far, I’ve seen COU and BBL targeted. I’m sure all departments will see this email soon! Because everybody has a cell phone nowadays, Smishing Attacks are becoming the preferred method of committing fraud!
