Teaming Meeting for the NSF STEM + C Funding Opportunity
by Monica Trevino
Dear COEHD Faculty,
The Office of Research Support (ORS) would like to invite you to a teaming meeting on May 2nd (Wednesday), at 11 am in JPL 4.04.12C. There is a great body of expertise in STEM across the UTSA campus. We are hoping that this invitation will bring together faculty/researchers from different colleges, schools, and departments to discuss this funding opportunity. We hope this will also begin the development of a 'learning community' in STEM that can begin to network and collaborate on issues related to STEM. In particular, that we can begin to 'incubate' ideas and concepts that will enable us to be ready to respond to the wide variety of currently available funding opportunities in STEM.
The NSF funding announcement can be located to this link (https://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=505006). Please note, that while the submission date for this current announcement is July 2, 2018, applications are accepted after this date for funding consideration on a rolling basis.
Computing Partnerships - NSF - National Science Foundation<https://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=505006>
www.nsf.gov<http://www.nsf.gov>
NSF's mission is to advance the progress of science, a mission accomplished by funding proposals for research and education made by scientists, engineers, and educators from across the country.
If you have an interest in and/or experience in STEM and would be interested in being part of a team, responding to this particular announcement, please join us on May 2 in JPL 4.04.12E. Please RSVP so we can plan enough handouts and snacks (yes! there will be snacks!).
And, even if you don't know that you are ready to participate in a grant development group right now, but are interested in STEM research, still consider joining us on May 2nd. Remember, we want you to be part of this Learning Community!
Thank you!

Students from the Coordinated Program in Dietetics attended a group practicum visit and tour of the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center. The visit included a presentation by Brenna Price, MDS, RD, LD (Oncology Dietitian), a former student of the program during its time at UT Health San Antonio, and a presentation by Dr. Sherri Cervantes, assistant professor of medicine in the Department of Hematology/Oncology, Palliative Medicine on Supportive Care Services. Mary Jackson, MSN, RN, OCN, director of Patient & Family Services, gave the students a tour of the center, where there were also able to view a radiation vault and speak with one of the radiation physicists. From the visit, the students were able to understand how impactful medical nutrition therapy is to cancer patients and the critical role a dietitian has in maintaining and improving quality of life during cancer treatment.
