Students from the Coordinated Program in Dietetics attended a group practicum visit and
tour of the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center. The visit included a
presentation by Brenna Price, MDS, RD, LD (Oncology Dietitian), a former student of the
program during its time at UT Health San Antonio, and a presentation by Dr. Sherri
Cervantes, assistant professor of medicine in the Department of Hematology/Oncology,
Palliative Medicine on Supportive Care Services. Mary Jackson, MSN, RN, OCN, director of
Patient & Family Services, gave the students a tour of the center, where there were
also able to view a radiation vault and speak with one of the radiation physicists. From
the visit, the students were able to understand how impactful medical nutrition therapy is
to cancer patients and the critical role a dietitian has in maintaining and improving
quality of life during cancer treatment. (Courtesy of Dr. Liset Leal-Vasquez and Professor

It’s not just businesses that rely on Slack to keep employees connected: Professors and
college students are increasingly turning to the messaging tool to stay in touch beyond
school hours. Not only are some instructors hosting text-based “office hours” on the
platform, they are even pushing important reminders through the app to their students,
just in case.
