Please pass along the following information as appropriate.
SHREDDING: As part of Recyclemania<http://www.utsa.edu/Safety/?section=recycling&page=news>, EHSRM is providing sensitive-document shredding services TODAY! Bring your documents to the parking lot between the Student Union (HUC) and Ximenes Avenue Garage before 4 p.m. Slide your documents into the giant dumpster from Republic Services. The shredding process will take place at their secured site.
For Downtown Campus and ITC, please box your documents and seal them. EHSRM will make one trip between noon and 1 p.m. to each location to pick them up. You can also take your boxed and sealed documents to the Downtown Mail Room earlier in the day, and they will store them inside their secured fence. Please contact Anastacio Alvarez at (210) 452-7252 with any questions.
*Employees need to comply with UTSA’s Record Retention schedule, so please only bring documents not covered by this policy.
SERVICE DRIVE GATES: Remember the Main Campus Service Drive Gates<http://www.utsa.edu/bussvc/News/2018/Jan2018/ServiceDriveChanges.html> will be active starting Monday, March 5. All voting members of the general faculty are eligible to hold this office. Those faculty members nominated, or those who wish to self-nominate, should provide a statement of professional accomplishments and interest in the position, not to exceed two pages. The Wei LAB is seeking a Researcher to join our team and further our mission: to design, conduct, and disseminate research that informs policymakers, practitioners, and concerned citizens on how to best promote equitable and inclusive learning and work environments in education in general, and higher education in particular.
As the Wei Lab Researcher, this position will assist the Director with providing oversight and direction to the research operations within Wisconsin's Equity and Inclusion Laboratory (Wei LAB). The Wei LAB is dedicated to conducting both basic and applied research on topics of equity and inclusion in education, with a particular focus on higher education. Broadly constructed, the LAB operationalizes equity and inclusion as efforts taken by organizations to ensure educational success for all of its constituents.
PhD in education or related discipline in the social and behavioral sciences required.

FW: Reminder: Seed Grant Deadlines Approaching

I want to remind faculty of the imminent VPR seed grant deadlines below. It is imperative PIs contact the RSC for timely CAYUSE routing. Please note: COE and COS faculty are ineligible to apply for the INTRA program.
The Internal Research Awards (INTRA) program is part of The UTSA Vice President for Research's coordinated efforts to promote research and scholarship of the highest quality. This program offers experience in identifying and submitting applications to potential funding sources, provides preliminary data to support applications for extramural funding, and enhances scholarly and creative activities. The program is awarding approximately 20 grants of $5,000 each to winning applications. Deadline: February 28, 2018
The Grant for Research Advancement and Transformation (GREAT) program will provide seed grants to support new areas of research for faculty at UTSA. The primary goal of these awards will be to assemble preliminary data that can be used to seek extramural funding and advance UTSA's goal of reaching Tier I status. It is expected that up to six grants for a maximum of $20,000 each may be awarded annually, based on availability of funds. Deadline: March 9, 2018
The Connecting through Research Partnerships (Connect) Program sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), is a grant opportunity offered to enhance greater scientific collaboration between the two institutions and to increase both UTSA's and SwRI's research-funding base with cross-campus collaborative programs. The program encourages interaction between investigators in support of the acquisitions of established extramural, peer-reviewed research funding. This agreement provides unprecedented opportunities for researchers to work together in addressing issues of mutual interest and need. The combined contributions of the two organizations are $125,000, of which UTSA will dedicate $50,000. Deadline: March 31, 2019
The SALSI Innovation Challenge is an initiative to fund high risk, high reward studies that have the potential to create ground-breaking research and novel approaches. Proposed research should lead to extramural funding and have a translational impact to the region's healthcare and bioscience industry. This cycle will focus on substance abuse/prevention. Proposals submitted for exploratory or novel studies that break new ground or extend previous discoveries leading in a new direction or towards innovative applications. The total maximum amount to be requested is $100,000 per award ($50,000 per institution). It is anticipated that two projects will be funded. NOI Deadline: March 19, 2018; Proposal Deadline: April 16, 2018
The SALSI Clusters in Research Excellence program calls for proposals aimed at developing two new strategic research clusters between The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and UT Health San Antonio (UT Health SA) and building a solid foundation for subsequent extramural funding. Specifically, SALSI will establish and support two institutionally driven clusters in the area of Healthcare Cybersecurity over a 12-month period. Proposals will be accepted from both the life and social sciences, as applied to the broad range of issues in healthcare cybersecurity research. The total maximum amount to be requested is $100,000 per award ($50,000 per institution). It is anticipated that two projects will be funded. NOI Deadline: March 19, 2018; Proposal Deadline: April 16, 2018

Registration is free. Fayetteville State University will be hosting a Taking the Pentagon to the People workshop April 11-12 in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
This workshop is intended for both faculty and administrators and will serve as a conduit to provide technical assistance to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), Asian American and Native American Serving Institutions (ANNAPISIs) as well as other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).
The intent is to develop a comprehensive assessment of the areas of greatest opportunity in the areas of pipeline development, STEM, and technical assistance needs for these institutions. DoD officials and representatives, prime and small business contractors will make information available regarding research, development, STEM and human capital and workforce development activities within the Department. DoD will develop a comprehensive suite of recommendations to DoD, HBCUs/MSIs and businesses to develop and enhance existing partnerships including, but not limited to, infrastructure enhancement, sustainability, grants and contracting, STEM education, human capital and workforce development, and civilian career opportunities.

Dear COEHD Faculty, Staff and Students,
Every year UTSA's Women's Studies Institute celebrates Women's History Month by hosting multiple events throughout March. You and your students are cordially invited to attend our Women's History Month Opening Reception, which will take place from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm on Tuesday, March 6th in Ballroom 1 HUC 1.01.06. We would be delighted if you could attend and experience first-hand the efforts the Women's Studies Institute is working on. The Agenda includes remarks by President Taylor Eighmy and Dean Margo DelliCarpini. In addition, we will present our Women's Advocate of the Year Award to a deserving San Antonio community leader.
Our theme for this year's Women's History Month is "Nevertheless, We Persist." We are happy to announce that our keynote speaker will be Ms. Erika Prosper Nirenberg the first lady of San Antonio, chairwoman of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHACC), Director of Customer Insights for H-E-B, and an advocate for child literacy and leadership.
As we celebrate our 15th anniversary, please join us in continuing our mission of raising social consciousness and working toward the empowerment of women and girls.
