COEHD Faculty, After reading an email, we should always have the mindset of “is this email legit?, do I know this person?, what email address is it coming from?” This is where the phrase STOP.LOOK.THINK comes in! There is a GMAIL account named Dept.Chair341 that was created by Hackers for a phishing attack - to gain information. It is being sent to all faculty to get your cellphone number. DO NOT RESPOND. The message looks similar to: From: Thelma Duffey <dept.chair341(a)gmail.com> Subject: [EXTERNAL] Date: February 18, 2021 at 2:46:24 PM CST **EXTERNAL EMAIL** This email originated outside of The University of Texas at San Antonio. USDE IES Funding Opportunities May 27, 2022

Greetings Colleagues, Four grant competitions have been posted by the US Department of Education Institute for Education Sciences. https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2022-05-26/pdf/2022-11355.pdf The full application packages will come out on June 30th with a proposal submission deadline two months and one week later on September 8. COEHD Research will schedule two pre-proposal sessions on the week of June 20th, and they will be followed by weekly support sessions running up until the submission deadline. Please contact me for any support and early planning in the coming weeks on these IES grants. Dr. Neely mentioned that the typical scheduling for the IES competition is announcement in mid-May with deadlines in mid-August so be aware of the shift in scheduling. Under this competition, NCER will consider only applications that address one of the following topics: • Early Career Mentoring Program for Faculty at Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs). • Methods Training in Data Science for Education Researchers. Using Longitudinal Data to Support State Education Policymaking (ALN 84.305S). Under this competition, NCER will only consider applications that address State agencies’ use of their State’s education longitudinal data systems to identify and reduce opportunity- and achievement gaps for learners from prekindergarten through adult education. Our hearts are broken by the tragedy that took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX on Tuesday, May 24. We think of the many families who senselessly lost loved ones. We will stand in support of those families by opening relief funds to which the community can contribute to help them heal.
