Greetings Colleagues,
This month’s listing of private funding opportunities begins with a timely statement issued by the president of the Spencer Foundation. There are currently two opportunities from the Spencer Foundation, four potential funding areas from the Russell Sage Foundation, two from the William T. Grant Foundation, two from the Brady Educational Foundation, and two from Arnold Ventures.

The Spencer Foundation's Racial Equity Research Grants program is now accepting proposals for projects that aim to understand and disrupt racial inequalities in education. This initiative seeks to fund studies that not only examine the reproduction and deepening of inequality but also envision and create new forms of equitable education across various systems, levels, and settings. The foundation encourages proposals employing diverse methodologies, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods. In collaboration with the Hewlett, Spencer, and William T. Grant Foundations, RSF seeks to support innovative research on the aftermath of the 2023 Supreme Court decision that struck down race-conscious college and university admissions policies. Immigration and Immigrant Integration

PIs may request up to $75,000 (no indirect costs) when the proposed research project has special needs for gathering data (e.g.: qualitative research) or gaining access to restricted-use data, or when the proposal budget includes salary support for multiple assistant professor PIs. Budget amounts are over a two-year period.

The Brady Education Foundation is dedicated to improving educational outcomes for children, particularly those from marginalized communities. The Foundation promotes collaboration among researchers, educators, and other stakeholders by funding two primary types of initiatives:
1. Research Projects (RP):
These projects aim to generate findings that can inform future educational research, practice, major philanthropic efforts, and public policy. The Foundation is especially interested in studies that adopt a strength-based perspective, focusing on the assets and capabilities of children and communities rather than deficits. Projects may address various aspects of education for children from birth through age 18.
2. Existing Program Evaluations (EPE):
This funding area supports evaluations of programs that are:
* Feasible and Sustainable: Programs that can be effectively implemented and maintained within real-world educational settings and systems.
* Accessible: Programs that are available to and attainable by the families who need them.

The application process consists of two stages:

The deadlines for submitting these optional inquiries are February 15 and June 15, 2025, for feedback prior to the April and August Stage 1 deadlines, respectively. Arnold Ventures is currently accepting Letters of Interest (LOIs) for two significant research funding opportunities aimed at evaluating social programs and policies. Both initiatives seek to build rigorous evidence to inform policy decisions and improve societal outcomes. The deadline for LOI submissions is March 14, 2025.
1. Strengthening Evidence: Support for Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs)
This Request for Proposals (RFP) focuses on funding rigorous RCTs across various areas of social policy. RCTs are considered a robust method for evaluating the effectiveness of programs and policies, as they allow for clear comparisons between treatment and control groups. The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, in collaboration with the Urban School Leaders Collaborative (USLC), is pleased to welcome Dr. Rotunda Floyd-Cooper, Vice President for Education Leadership at the Wallace Foundation. She will be visiting the USLC Program on February 11 and 12 at the UTSA Downtown campus. During her visit, Dr. Floyd-Cooper will engage with UTSA's nationally recognized USLC Program and the initiatives being implemented in the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). The USLC leadership development program is part of the Wallace Foundation’s Equity-Centered Pipeline Initiative (ECPI). The Wallace Foundation has committed $102 million to support programs in eight high-need school districts aimed at developing school leaders who are dedicated to advancing equity in their communities.

Dear Colleague,
UTS is pleased to announce the impending upgrade of all UTSA PCs from Windows 10 to the Windows 11 operating system. As you may already be aware, Microsoft has elected to end support and stop updating Windows 10 in the coming year. This will make Windows 10 untenable in the UTSA environment. If you have a UTSA-issued PC, it will need to be upgraded.
All devices must be upgraded by the end of October 2025. Users may elect to begin the upgrade process as early as today.
What to expect:
UTS is committed to making this transition as seamless as possible. Most users will have the option to apply the upgrade to their own UTSA-issued machines at a time and place that is most convenient for them. If you prefer to have a technician complete the upgrade for you, or if your machine cannot support a self-service upgrade, machines can be upgraded at the Tech Café by appointment.

17th Annual COEHD Research Colloquium

The 17th Annual COEHD Research Colloquium to address interdisciplinary and international research will be taking place on Tuesday, February 25th from 3:00 – 6:00 at the HEB Ballroom. The focus for the Colloquium this year is on Developing a Vision for Research in Higher Education: Contributions to Culture, Communities, and Human Development.
Registration for the Colloquium has opened, and we are trying to spread the word about the Colloquium to invite faculty, staff, and students. The flyer for the event is attached. Please share the flyer with your students and encourage them to attend. This colloquium could provide a great opportunity to earn extra credit for courses.
We ask that people register for the Colloquium in advance to help us get an idea of how many people will be attending.
