Community Conversations on Race and Education II

The African American Studies Program presents Community Conversations on Race and Education II featuring Dr. Denise Taliaferro Baszile, Associate Professor and Director, Diversity Initiatives, Miami University (OH). Dr. Taliaferro Baszile will provide a guest lecture entitled "Where is the Love? Some Thoughts on Educating for Social Justice In/Through/Against Academia".
This event will take place Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 6 pm to 8:30 pm in the Peter T. Flawn Science Building , 2.03.12.
The guest lecture will be followed by a panel discussion. Panelists are Dr. Janee Avent, Assistant Professor, Depart of Counseling, ReAnna S. Roby, Doctoral Fellow, Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching, TaSonia Hendrix, Wells Fargo, and Anna Frederick, Curriculum Specialist (Special Education), San Antonio ISD.

Let's get moving for the American Heart Association
The UTSA State Employee Charitable Campaign Planning Committee has teamed up with the UTSA Wellness Committee to host a healthy-walking activity on April 9, 2015 from 11am to 1pm in observance of National Walking Day. All funds raised for this event will be donated to the American Heart Association (AHA). UTSA faculty, staff and students are invited to help SECC meet and exceed the pledge goal of $2,000. There will be events at the all campuses. Registration and pledge forms are due Monday, April 6, 2015. All funds are due no later than April 9th.

The Texas Senate has approved allowing thousands of high school seniors to graduate this year despite failing one of the standardized exams needed to earn a diploma. Amarillo Republican Sen. Kel Seliger’s bill offers an alternative graduation plan to an estimated 28,000 class of 2015 seniors who failed to pass one of five required statewide exams in algebra I, biology, English I and II and U.S. history.

The Global LEAD Conference will finally be here next Thursday, March 26th at the HEB UC ballroom from 9-530pm. Dr. Machado-Casas and the entire Global LEAD staff are cordially inviting you and your classes to join us for this important discussion and summit.
