Dear colleagues,
The African American Studies Program invites you to an upcoming event featuring guest speaker Dr. Elaine Richardson.
Dr. Richardson is currently a professor of Literacy Studies at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. Her research interests include the liberation and critical literacy education of people of the Black African Diaspora. Dr. Richardson has published a number of books including her urban education memoir, PHD to Ph.D.: How Education Saved My Life, which chronicles her life from drugs and the street life to the award-winning scholar and university professor. She is the Director of The Ohio State University Hip-hop Literacies Conference, as well as the nascent non-profit Education Foundation for Freedom, focusing on educational empowerment of women and girls. Richardson, aka Dr. E is also a recording artist and performer, using her performance to reach souls on a deeper level.

Death of Dottie Kyle, UTSA alumni
by Margo DelliCarpini
Dear COEHD Faculty and Staff,
We were notified by her family that Dottie Kyle, a 2004 graduate of the Higher Education program, passed away on March 16 of this year.
Our ELPS master’s program in Higher Education and Student Affairs began during the spring semester of 2007. For that reason, we believe Dottie Kyle would have been a graduate of the Adult and Higher Education Program in the CEPAHE department.
From the obituary and appended photos, it also appears that Mrs. Kyle was an employee of the admissions office while at UTSA.
Please share this sad news with anyone who might have known her. A link to her obituary is below:

Dear COEHD Faculty and Staff,
I am happy to announce that we have filled the Administrative Services Officer position in the COEHD Dean’s Office.
As you know, Karen Hoskins the outgoing Assistant Dean for COEHD is retiring next month, and Liliana Gutierrez was selected as the new Assistant Dean for COEHD.
Please join me in welcoming Laura Earleywine as the new Administrative Services Officer II in the COEHD Dean’s Office, effective April 6, 2017.
Laura has been at UTSA since 2007 and has previous experience in UTSA academic departments and the COEHD Dean’s Office.
We are very excited to have her join us and look forward to her working with our staff and faculty again. Thank you.
Best,
Margo
