In an effort to enhance understanding of Mexico and Latin America, the Carlos and Malú Alvarez International Study Fund, offers scholarships and enrichment funds to defray the cost to students participating in UTSA Study Abroad programs. Programs must involve travel to one the following areas: unrestricted regions of Mexico, Central or South America. The International Study Fund is directly supported by distributions from the Carlos and Malú Alvarez Endowment for Student Success. The endowment goal is to directly benefit the student recipients and encourage participation in study abroad activities, thus the funds cannot be used for program related expenses, such as faculty stipends, travel, and educational materials.
