Graduate Certificate in Program Evaluation
[UTSA offers new graduate certificate in program evaluation]
Students in the UTSA Department of Educational Psychology collaborate on a project.
The Graduate Certificate in Program Evaluation<http://education.utsa.edu/DEGREES/article/graduate_certificate_in_program...>, which began this fall, is designed to help graduate students and professionals develop foundational skills in research methods and program evaluation and assessment. The 15-hour program, led by co-coordinators Drs. Michael Karcher and Guan Saw, provides practical experience collecting and analyzing data, and is aligned with the American Evaluation Association's Program Evaluation Standards and Guiding Principles.
"This is a cross-disciplinary program with a focus on the core knowledge and skills of evaluation," said Saw, EDP assistant professor. "We currently have students enrolled in the program from different departments across the college, including the Departments of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, Bicultural-Bilingual Studies, and Educational Psychology."
Current degree-seeking students can apply to waive two foundational courses with courses that they have already taken in their respective degree programs. These students would be able to complete the graduate certificate program in as little as nine hours by taking two core courses and one practicum course on program evaluation.
The program is open to all graduate students in education, psychology, public policy and administration, sociology, and social work, as well as practicing professionals in the community.
"In all of these fields, there is a high demand for professionals who have an understanding of evaluation and data analysis," said Dr. Jeremy Sullivan, EDP department chair.

NOTICE: Reporting Requirement
by Liliana Gutierrez
Sending on behalf of Bernard Arulanandam
Dear UTSA Faculty:
The national dialogue around sexual and other harassment in academic settings has prompted a shift in culture at universities. The National Academies' recent report<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsites.nat...> provides tactical strategies to overcome these challenges while recognizing the impact it can have on scientific discovery and public trust. President Eighmy has declared<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.utsa....> these acts as unacceptable and states they will not be tolerated at UTSA. I am letting you know that the National Science Foundation has also moved<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nsf....> to exclude sexual misconduct from the academic community.
Beginning on October 22, 2018, any Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator found to have engaged in sexual or other harassment will be reported to the NSF, along with the sanctions taken against the PI or Co-PI. Allegations will not be reported but only claims that are substantiated by the UTSA Office of Equal Opportunity Services. I have attached the NSF Grant Conditions excerpt so that you have details for your reference.
We appreciate your assistance in disseminating this important message to the research community on campus and creating an inclusive environment in which we can all thrive and add to the knowledge enterprise.
Regards,
Bernard Arulanandam, Ph.D., M.B.A.
