RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM-- Save the Date, Sept 25th
by Rosalind Horowitz
8 August 2019
Dear All Tenure-track Faculty, Adjuncts, Students,
You are invited to present research at the Fall College Research Colloquium, Wednesday,
September 25th, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the JPL Assembly Room, JPL 4.04.22.
We will Celebrate our 50th year as an institution now growing by leaps and bounds
to Tier I Research status. Research presented may be at any stage of development
from initial conceptualizations, pilot study, ongoing, conducted, and published! These talks
will occur at tables that seat 6-8 to create conversations. This is a great opportunity to share and to gain input. The Fall Colloquium will give special attention to Research Methodologies-- particularly new forms of investigation and related assessment and evaluation that are emerging locally and nationally.
Guidelines for submitting a presentation will be forwarded under a separate e-mail.
Save this date and mark your syllabus and calendar!
With best wishes for the remainder of the summer and warm regards.
Rosalind Horowitz and Ralph Gdovin

COEHD Conceptual Framework
by Allison Baca
Dear Colleagues:
Welcome back! As you prepare your syllabus, please recall that the COEHD Conceptual Framework and Candidate Proficiencies committee requested that you use our conceptual framework logo (attached). We are also attaching our final version of conceptual framework (thanks to all for the feedback) and ppt for your use. If your course is a benchmark course (see framework for list), we requested that you have your students complete the following reflection on TaskStream.
Critically reflect:
How do you demonstrate that you are a culturally efficacious agent of change who is knowledgeable, community-based, and professional?
As mentioned in our May college-wide meeting, the committee will randomly pull responses from across the college to assess candidate proficiency.
Please contact either Marisol Johnson or Kendra for TaskStream training.
Let me know if you have any questions!

INTERN (Non-Academic Research Internships for Graduate Students Supplemental Funding)
NSF has identified improvement of graduate student preparedness for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workforce as one of its priorities. As part of this effort, a supplemental funding opportunity is available in fiscal year (FY) 2018 and FY 2019. This funding provides support for non-academic research internships for graduate students for career opportunities in any sector of the U.S. economy.
NSF currently invests in a number of graduate student preparedness activities and has historically encouraged principal investigators (PIs) to include such activities in research proposals to NSF. This Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) describes new commitments and funding opportunities at NSF to ensure graduate students are prepared for the 21st-century STEM workforce.
Information on this DCL is available here: Non-Academic Research Internships for Graduate Students (INTERN)
This internship opportunity is available as a supplement to NSF grants awarded by the Directorate for Education and Human Resources (EHR), Directorate for Engineering (ENG), and Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (OAC) within the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE). Grantees are encouraged to include NSF Graduate Research Fellows and Honorable Mentions in their proposals.
