The Racial Equity Special Research Grants supports education research projects that will contribute to understanding and disrupting racial inequality in education and work to reimagine generative possibilities to advance educational equity, with budgets up to $75,000 for projects ranging from one to five years. While the field of education has long focused on issues of inequality and its growth globally we now find ourselves in a time of increased urgency given the current intersections of the COVID-19 public health crisis, rapid shifts in educational systems, economic challenges, and growing civil resistance to systemic racism and anti-blackness. There is perhaps no issue of greater importance right now than racial inequality across all of our systems and structures. We believe that educational research can play an important role in developing new forms of education that are humane, equitable, and just. As such, there is a pressing need for robust approaches to scholarship that can contribute consequentially to achieving racial equity in education. We encourage a wide range of methodological approaches to creatively and ambitiously engage in advancing racial equity.

Racial Equity 2030, administered by Lever for Change and sponsored by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, is a $90 million global challenge to drive an equitable future for children, families, and communities across the world. This challenge seeks ideas from anywhere in the world and will scale them over the next decade to transform the systems and institutions that uphold inequity. Solutions may tackle the social, economic, political, or institutional inequities we see today. Applications must embrace and reflect the values of racial equity and justice, and proposed solutions should be led by an experienced team that includes communities closest to the issue as part of leadership in the project. Teams of visionaries, change agents, and community leaders from every sector are invited to join. U.S. nonprofit organizations as well as organizations outside the U.S. with equivalent status are eligible to apply.
Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education-Career and Educational Pathways Exploration System Program due December 9, 2020

The purpose of the Career Pathways Program funded through FIPSE is to develop technology-based or technology-enabled career exploration systems that enable high school students to identify and explore career opportunities that align with their interests, ambitions, and aptitudes; learn from individuals who work in those fields about the nature of their work and opportunities available in their fields; and identify education and training options—including non-college programs such as work-based learning opportunities, military training, apprenticeships, and employer-sponsored training—that enable entry into or advancement in those careers. Career and education pathways exploration systems must include, for featured occupations, information about employment outlook and likely entry and mid-career earnings in featured fields, and they must enable students to use built-in financial analysis tools to explore the economic impact of their career, education, and training choices. Note: Only a non-profit organization not an institution of higher education may serve as the lead applicant. The purpose of the Field Initiated (FI) Projects program is to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities. Another purpose of the FI Projects program is to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (Act). In carrying out a development activity under a FI Projects development grant, a grantee must use knowledge and understanding gained from research to create materials, devices, systems, methods, measures, techniques, tools, prototypes, processes, or intervention protocols that are beneficial to the target population.

Successful application results in an award to implement the EL Fellow and Specialist Programs that allow students and teachers at host institutions to benefit from the U.S. participants’ knowledge and perspectives on pedagogical issues and gain a better understanding of U.S. culture and values, representative government, free enterprise, and the rule of law. EL Fellows and Specialists provide foreign educators, professionals, and students with the communication skills they need to participate in the global economy and to improve their access to accurate information and U.S. perspectives on a broad variety of issues. Pending the availability of Fiscal Year 2021 funds, the Bureau anticipates the placement of a total of approximately 200 Fellows and 200 Specialists and 50 U.S. embassy (post)- funded Fellows and Specialists either virtually or in-person during both Academic Year 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. U.S. public and private non-profit organization meeting the 2 provisions described in Internal Revenue Code, Section 26 U.S.C 501 (c) (3) may submit proposals to administer and manage the FY2021 EL Fellow and Specialist Program.
The English Language (EL) Fellow and Specialist Programs build bridges of mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by placing U.S. English language educators in educational institutions abroad. The EL Fellow and Specialist Programs send talented, highly qualified U.S. citizens in the area of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or a closely related field for approximately ten-month Fellow exchanges or short-term (two weeks or more) Specialist assignments at educational institutions in all regions of the world.

Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to announce changes to HOP 2.02<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.utsa...> and 2.50<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.uts...> that describe faculty appointments, titles and recruitment, evaluation, and promotion for Fall 2021. These proposed changes are the result of a process that started with the non-tenure-track (NTT) faculty committee of the Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars (ADTS). Composed of NTT and tenured faculty members, the committee's goal is to improve the status of NTT faculty at UTSA and to enhance the institutional climate in which they work.
In 2014-15, several committee members conducted surveys and focus groups of a representative group of NTT faculty from several colleges and prepared a white paper for the provost, Moving Toward One Faculty at UTSA<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fprovost....>. In the summer of 2018, the committee presented an updated white paper to Provost Espy shortly after her hire with revised recommendations. At her urging, the NTT committee then spent six months examining policies and procedures related to NTT faculty at our aspirant and sister institutions. Utilizing this research and leveraging the changes by UT System to the faculty title series, Provost Espy charged the NTT committee with drafting revised policies and guidelines for NTT faculty, specifically HOP 2.02 and 2.50, in conjunction with Academic Affairs colleagues.
In Fall 2019, the NTT Titles and Promotion Working Group was established with members Valerie Sponsel (chair), Diane Abdo, Hector Aguilar, Vangie Aguilera, Gina Amatangelo, Tracy Cowden, Jennifer Dilley, Sedef Doganer, Kirsten Gardner, David Hansen, Patricia Jaramillo, Ashok Nedungadi, Debra Pena, William Ramos, Lindsay Ratcliffe, Dixie Shaw-Tillmon, David Vance, Deborah Wagner, and Karen Williams. The group has worked to collaborate, iterate, and substantiate drafted revisions to HOP 2.02 and 2.50 and to develop a plan for transition based on the updated standards. We thank the Working Group for their diligent and dedicated work to provide consistency across colleges and departments on appointments and promotion.
The following major changes have been made to HOP 2.02 and 2.50:
* Non-tenure-track faculty have been renamed to fixed-term-track (FTT) faculty, in order for faculty members to be defined by what they are, rather than what they are not.
* Titles for FTT faculty at UTSA will be:
* Lecturer, Senior Lecturer,
* Assistant, Associate, and Professor of Instruction (new series)
* Assistant, Associate, and Professor of Practice,
* Assistant, Associate, and Professor of Research,
* Clinical Assistant, Associate, and Professor.
* FTT faculty in the new Professor of Instruction series will be expected to have a terminal degree in their field.
* FTT faculty in the Professor of Practice series will have a terminal degree or be qualified to teach by virtue of professional experience in lieu of typical academic credentials.
* A promotion process and guidelines has been developed to move FTT faculty through the ranks.
The Working Group, in collaboration with Academic Affairs, has developed a transition plan<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fprovost...> to convert faculty to the updated titles. In addition, promotion guidelines<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fprovost...> for FTT faculty have been developed for faculty members wishing to pursue this opportunity. The transition process will occur during Spring 2021 to be effective Fall 2021.
An electronic form will be sent to all FTT faculty soon inquiring whether they wish to transition to the updated titles or go up for promotion into another title; the form should be returned by Dec. 11, 2020.
This work has been an important step to supporting and recognizing our FTT faculty colleagues and creating a strong faculty body that supports student success.

Join us today as Program Officer Jenny Irons will discuss the Foundation's focus on reducing inequality and share guidance for prospective applicants interested in studying strategies to address inequality's structural roots. Irons will be joined by grantees Matthew Desmond (Princeton University) and Cecilia Ayón (University of California, Riverside), who will expound on the different system-level factors at the center of their respective studies, their methodological approaches, and challenges and opportunities for the field.

Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry - Register Today!

Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to encourage you and your students to Register for the Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry Showcase by November 13th for the Wednesday, November 18th, Showcase on Zoom.
UTSA is developing Undergraduate Research with a rich range of scheduled Events, from 10 to Noon Oral Talks
by Undergraduate Researchers on Zoom, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. short 3-minute presentations and 4:00 p.m.
with closing remarks by the Vice President for Research. See Attachment.
Graduate students are invited to attend and also serve as Judges. An interest form is available on the Undergraduate Research Website.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities will grow at UTSA and are being developed at universities nationally, as well as at AERA and by other research-based organizations.
Note: The next Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry Showcase will occur the week of April 12-14, 2021
with a deadline for proposals tentatively scheduled for April 1st, 2021.

internal funding opportunity : Bridge Fund Program (BFP) has a November 19th due date

The opportunity has a November 19th deadline and interested faculty should reach out to their respective RSC to begin the submission process as soon as possible.
Bridge Fund Program (BFP)
This Bridge Fund Program (BFP), an initiative of the Brain Health Consortium (BHC), funded by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Economic Development, and Knowledge Enterprise (REDKE), is a grant opportunity that provides funding for limited, interim research support based on the merit of a previously submitted application being revised for resubmission. This support is designed to enable tenure/tenure-track faculty Principal Investigators (PIs) to gather additional data to strengthen a revised application. The BFP will aid both early career PIs still establishing their research careers as well as established PIs who can benefit from interim funding while they revise applications. BFP applications must contain efforts to address recent grant critiques from public (e.g., NIH, NSF, DoD, CPRIT) or private sponsors.
Funding Limits: It is anticipated that up to two grants for a maximum of $15,000 each may be awarded, based on availability of funds.
Submission Deadline: November 19, 2020.
