Virtual Inauguration of the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute

Dear colleagues,
I'm proud to serve on the board of directors of the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute, which will inaugurate this Friday, August 14 via Facebook live.
MACRI is the first-of-its-kind institute dedicated to chronicling and advancing the Mexican American community’s civil rights efforts in the U. S. We believe that telling and re-telling our history of Mexican American civil rights has the power to transform our collective consciousness, lived experience, identity, resilience, and self-determination, now and into the future.
Please join us on the MACRI Facebook page (@macri.national) where we will be sharing special messages from our Executive Leadership and Board Members as well as esteemed community supporters from across the country. We will also feature panels & pláticas with renowned leaders and scholars in Mexican American civil rights, that will provide a preview into the type of programming and offerings that you can expect from MACRI in the future.

Phishing emails from Dean Margo DelliCarpini

Good afternoon COEHD Faculty and Staff,
Currently, there have been several phishing emails sent from Dr. Margo DelliCaprini. If you receive an external email from her requesting, your phone number or you to text her back with your information, this is a phishing email!
The Dean uses her UTSA account to conduct university business and
schedule appointments. She does not contact UTSA Faculty and Staff through another account.
We are reminding everyone to ensure data is protected from phishing attacks. Increase your cyber security awareness to keep you safe from phishing attacks that may arrive in your inbox.
Phishing is a cyber-attack used to lure people to provide their confidential information usually by sending them to a website that they may normally use. Attackers send email messages that look like they are from a legitimate company - such as UTSA. When you click on a link in a phishing message, it may download a virus/malware or take you to a mock-up of the legitimate company's or university's website.
A virus/malware will steal your credentials and confidential information when directing you to a website that will prompt you for your information. If you submit information to these websites, attackers can re-sell the information or use it to commit fraud or other illegal acts. The UTSA Office of Information Security has some easy tips to protect you, your data, and our university.
The COEHD IT Department created the following handout and flyer, to help recognize phishing attacks in the future.

In a virtual meeting, UTSA’s Martin Luther King Jr. committee presented the MLK Jr. Scholarship to this year's recipient, Teanna Gomes. “It’s a huge weight off my shoulders,” Gomes said. “I’ve never received anything like this before."

Whether or not you plan to come physically to UTSA's campuses at any point this fall, you are required to complete the training. Much of the information included applies to all situations, whether you learn, live or work from home or campus.
