Dear COEHD Community,
I am reaching out to share news about the heartbreaking loss of a fellow Roadrunner. We recently received confirmation on the death of Alexia Rosales, an ILT undergraduate student. No additional action regarding contacts or institutional updates is needed on your part. Our Campus Postvention Team will reach out the family in the coming days. If you have additional information or questions about the Postvention response, Melissa Hernandez (melissa.hernandez(a)utsa.edu<mailto:melissa.hernandez@utsa.edu>) is the contact.
Since this tragic news has become available, you might find yourself in a position to support students or additional campus community members. Wellness 360's<https://screening.mentalhealthscreening.org/utsa> counseling staff and the Employee Assistance Program<https://www.utsa.edu/hr/eap/> can help.
Wellness 360<https://screening.mentalhealthscreening.org/utsa> provides in-person counseling at the Recreation Wellness Center (RWC 1.810) during campus business hours and (210) 458-4142. Additionally, TimelyCare<https://www.utsa.edu/students/programs-and-services/Timely-Care/> is available for students for students throughout the holiday break with its TalkNow feature as well as scheduled counseling.
The Employee Assistance (EAP) Program<https://www.utsa.edu/hr/EmployeeRelations/eapinfo.html> also provides counseling services for faculty and staff. Call 1-888-993-7650 for assistance.
Here are some tips when talking with students and colleagues:
* Acknowledge the tragedy. Say something like, "I know what happened might be on your mind now."
* Allow students or your colleagues to share their concerns. You might say, "You may be experiencing a wide range of feelings and emotions right now. If you'd like to share those, feel welcome to do so."
* Realize that it is common to see a variety of reactions, including being unable to focus or concentrate, feeling frustrated, angry, guilty, remorseful, or numb.
Thank you for all you do to support our campus community during this difficult time.
Best,
Mario Torres
