The College of Education and Human Development celebrated the retirement of two faculty
members, Dr. Roxanne Henkin, professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and
Teaching and director of the San Antonio Writing Project, and Dr. Laura Rendon, professor
in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and co-director of the
Center for Research and Policy in Education. Both retirees were honored during a special
reception on Friday, May 13, 2016. Click

Association
COEHD students Marisol Reyes (Bicultural-Bilingual Studies) and Vanessa Sansone
(Educational Leadership and Policy Studies) were awarded the COEHD Outstanding
Undergraduate Student and Outstanding Graduate Student awards, respectively, at the 2016
UTSA Student Government Association's University Life Awards Ceremony. Dr. Zaid
Haddad, assistant professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching,
received the Alumni Association's Distinguished Faculty Award at the ceremony.

The University of Texas at San Antonio will serve as the home of the new UT System
partnership with Mexico's National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT). The
move was announced in a press release Monday. The UT System Board of Regents has approved
$5 million to advance its relationship with the council and offer new academic research
exchange programs for the United States and Mexico. CONACYT will invest an initial $16.3
million in the project.

Winners of $430,000 in statewide prizes were announced at the H-E-B Excellence in
Education Awards ceremony on May 13 at La Cantera Hill Country Resort in San Antonio.
H-E-B Chairman and CEO Charles Butt congratulated the eight educators, two school
districts, one early childhood agency and a public school board for being among the best
in Texas. Over the last 15 years, H-E-B has awarded $8 million in recognition of
creativity and best practices in Texas public education, making it the largest monetary
program for educators in the state.
