Why I don’t observe Hispanic Heritage
Month<http://education.utsa.edu/news/article/why_i_dont_observe_hispan...
by Elizabeth Rivas, Ph.D. student in Culture, Literacy, and Language program/ Department
of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies | October 08, 2014
When I was asked to contribute a short column about Hispanic Heritage Month—as a local
history teacher and current doctoral student, my initial reaction was one of excitement.
But then I started to think about the targeted audience and whether they would want to
read about the idealistic or realistic point of view on how a public school teacher
celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. I came to the conclusion that I would be honest and
write from the realistic point of view.

Google<http://tpr.org/post/middle-school-students-get-online-safety-le...
by Joey Palacios | October 09, 2014
(TPR NEWS) -- Internet safety has become the new "stranger danger" among middle
school students. This week, Google gave a lesson to students at Vale Middle School on how
to secure their information, and protect themselves from involuntarily going viral with an
embarrassing images or videos. The company's Online Safety Roadshow is designed to
teach kids the risks of weak passwords, giving out too much information, and sharing
photos. Google spokeswoman Jamie Hill says the pre-teen and early teen years are the best
ages to target students for online safety.
