Dear colleagues,
The African American Studies Program worked with the various offices on our campus
organizing participants for San Antonio's 30th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. March on
January 16, 2017. The six buses we helped sponsor, enabled hundreds of students to
participate and engage with the meaning of MLK Day. Our bright orange shirts really
helped us stand out. We were so proud to be Roadrunners!
Today, the African American Studies program is proudly inviting you to the MLK Lecture
series and reception sponsored by the Office of the President. This year, our Martin
Luther King Jr Speaker is Renee Watson, manager of the Bexar County Small, Minority and
Women Owned business Enterprise (SMWBE Program). She is also a UTSA Alumnae.
Ms. Watson's presentation will center on "Getting Involved, Getting Engaged, and
Getting an Education" which is fitting for this year's topic, A Roadrunner's
Journey to Community Service.
We are looking forward to your participation in this event and ask that you note the date
and time in your calendars. A reception will follow for all attendees.
Please help us kick off Black History Month at UTSA!
