Mary Bockman, a Teaching English as a Second Language master’s student, was looking for a
way to improve her Spanish language skills. She was invited to apply for a scholarship for
a month-long intensive Spanish language program at the Universidad de Guadalajara. She
only had to pay for her plane tickets.

Dr. Thelma Duffey, professor and chair on the Department of Counseling and president of
the American Counseling Association, recently attended a White House reception hosted by
First Lady Michelle Obama to celebrate the School Counselor of the Year Award and
recognize the work of counselors throughout the country.. She represented the American
Counseling Association.
