"I come from a family of hardworking immigrants who have always taught me to never
quit until I have accomplished my goals! I am the first in my family to graduate and I
couldn’t have accomplished it without the love and support from my parents and sisters!
Since I was a little girl I have dreamed about having my own classroom and now I can
proudly say in less than 2 weeks I will officially be a teacher! You can now call me Ms.
Carrillo!"

"I started at UTSA back in the summer of 2010 and since then I have started a family
and when the pandemic hit I decided to go back to school. I have a 2 year old and a 5
month old. Even with so much time in between I knew I wanted to pursue a degree. This has
been such a difficult and fulfilling time and I plan to get certified and teach
EC-6!"

"I am a first-gen student from San Antonio, TX. I currently work at UT Health San
Antonio working with students in dual-degree programs. My work is the reason I felt the
need to get my masters and I am already incorporating lessons learned in my praxis. I am
married and have two daughters, ages 7 and 5, who supported me through the journey to get
my masters degree."

"Being a Bangladeshi in a country of diverse cultures, I learned to acknowledge,
accept and celebrate differences. The cultural diversity teaches me to stay grounded, be
empathic and stand against the unjust. My identity stimulates my interest in pursuing the
Ph.D. degree in education to contribute to the betterment of society. Besides education, I
always feel music enormously influences my life to focus, motivates me to create new
ideas, and see things through a broader lens."

"I am from Lima , Peru, but I've been living in the States for over 15 years. I
love spending time with my family , going to the gym, and dancing. I became a teacher to
have a positive impact in the academic life of a child, and to help students reach their
full potential."

"I am a full time working mom of 3 beautiful babies with a supportive spouse. I
wondered if pursuing higher education was a right decision for me given my already busy
life, and now that I’m at the end I know I made the right decision! I am part of the
Northside ISD and UTSA Cohort and have grown so much as an educator, leader and
professional in just these past two short years. I will forever be thankful for everything
I’ve learned and the relationships formed along the way!"

"I was born in Monterrey, N.L, Mexico, but have lived in San Antonio for most of my
life. At a very young age I fell in love with education and the excitement of learning. I
had amazing role models in my bilingual schools that drove me to be the person that I am
today, and I only hope I can do the same and more for my students. UTSA helped me truly
reclaim and appreciate my identity as a latina, and I have grown such a passion for
staying true to your roots and flourishing into a better individual by learning and
unlearning from your past."

"I am a passionate child advocate who has taught in the classroom for the last 7
years as a 4th and 5th grade teacher. I am also an ESL teacher and am passionate about my
teaching practices. I received my Undergraduate degree from UTSA in Interdisciplinary
Studies (EC-6th) and English as a Second Language, and I knew it was time to return home
to UTSA to earn my Master's degree. I believe education is a life long journey and
something that should be celebrated and cherished. I am honored to receive this degree in
Curriculum and Instruction, and plan to continue to advocate for children, and share my
passion for education. Go Runners!"
