The theme for 2018 will be “I Am Not Your Negro,” based on the recent film about James Baldwin. As the Brackenridge Endowed Chair in Literature and the Humanities, I am providing funding for films, panels, and speakers similar to what is provided for Women’s History Month. The mission for this Black History Month is to recognize and celebrate people of African descent’s contributions and causes by: providing space for educational events from a critical and culturally sustaining perspective; promoting a commitment to diversity, excellence, and collaboration; and aiming to achieve social justice and empowerment. I invite you to the Black History Month Informational Meeting on Monday, September 18, 2017, 10:00 – 11:00 am, in MB 2.404, the English Department Conference Room. We will discuss the theme and answer any questions about submitting proposals, co-sponsoring an event, or funding.
