8 Ways to Help Your Daughter Deal with Mean
Girls<http://www.womansday.com/relationships/family-friends/a58448/how...
by LAUREL ANN-DOOLEY - Woman’s Day | Pub: 03/30
Scenario: Your daughter's (now-former) friend took her phone when she wasn't
looking and texted your daughter's crush, begging him to invite her to the winter
formal. Your daughter feels humiliated, betrayed, and hurt. First, just listen. "The
hard part is to leave judgment at the door and not minimize what has happened," says
Christopher Leeth, professor of counseling at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
"It's natural to want to say things like 'don't let them get to you'
or 'it's not that big a deal.' That's not how [your] daughter
feels."

Did you know there was a drug that prevents people from getting HIV? It's called
'Prep’. The FDA approved the medication in 2012 and it has yet to take off here in
Texas. Millions of Americans are expected to become uninsured under the new American
Healthcare Act and this could mean less access to life-saving medications like Prep.

When La Raza Faculty and Administrator Association, or LRFAA, was founded 30 years ago,
the organization sought to voice the concerns and perspectives of University of Texas at
San Antonio Latina and Latino students, faculty and staff in university governance,
program development, and student and faculty initiatives. While some improvements have
been made, UTSA continues to exclude key stakeholders in academic leadership, faculty
hires and, most recently, its selection of the next president of UTSA.

Many were moved by the story; perhaps no one more than Keli Rosa Cabunoc, the UTSA
graduate student who played the young labor activist who led the 1938 pecan shellers
strike. It’s regarded as the first major milestone in the Mexican American struggle for
justice in U.S. history, though Texas students aren’t taught about her. An estimated
10,000 to 12,000 workers were involved, the great majority of them Mexican and
Mexican-American women who walked off the job for several months to protest cuts in
starvation wages and unbearable working conditions.
César E. Chávez: A Man with a Vision For Improving Farmworkers’
Lives<https://therivardreport.com/cesar-e-chavez-a-man-with-a-vision-f...
by JOSIE MÉNDEZ-NEGRETE - The Rivard Report | Pub: 03/27
Originally from Yuma, Ariz., César E. Chávez relocated with his family to Sal Si Puedes, a
barrio in East San Jose, Calif. A complex man, he internalized the inequalities of race
and class early on, with his family’s loss of their land during the Great Depression. At
age 17, he served his country by enlisting in the Navy, and two years later found himself
working in the agricultural fields. There were no others jobs available for Mexicans
besides la pisca, the harvest. He soon became active in a self-help and civil rights
organization, Community Services Organization (CSO), situated a few blocks from where his
family lived.
