Hello COEHD colleagues,
I hope you all are having a great week! Please see the email below for information about
VPREDKE seed grants. These institutional grants are a great opportunity to develop
transdisciplinary research ideas that have promise for larger funding opportunities. I
encourage you to apply with your innovative and collaborative research ideas.
Please note that these are different than the COEHD Faculty Research Grants opportunity I
sent last week. Do not hesitate to reach out with questions, assistance, or anything else
related to these opportunities. Iwan and I would be happy to assist, or help you find a
team for one of these grants.
Thank you!

Subject: Seed Grant Program Announcement (FY 2023 Funds)
Good Afternoon All,
Please see below seed grant opportunities offered under the Office of the Vice President
for Research, Economic Development, and Knowledge Enterprise (VPREDKE) that can be
distributed within your respective college.
The Grant for Research Advancement and Transformation (GREAT) program will provide seed
grants to support new areas of research for faculty at UTSA. The primary goal of these
awards will be to assemble preliminary data that can be used to seek extramural funding
and advance UTSA’s institutional research excellence goals (Carnegie R1, NRUF, AAU, etc.).
It is expected that up to four grants for a maximum of $20,000 each may be awarded.
NOI Deadline: February 21, 2022 and Proposal Deadline: March 9, 2022
The Internal Research Awards (INTRA) program is part of The UTSA VPREDKE coordinated
efforts to promote research and scholarship of the highest quality. This program offers
experience in identifying and submitting applications to potential funding sources,
provides preliminary data to support applications for extramural funding, and enhances
scholarly and creative activities. It is anticipated that twenty grants of $5,000 each may
be awarded.
NOI Deadline: March 21, 2022 and Proposal Deadline: April 6, 2022
The Connecting through Research Partnerships (Connect) program sponsored by the Office of
the VPREDKE at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and the Southwest Research
Institute (SwRI), is a grant opportunity offered to enhance greater scientific
collaboration between the two institutions and to increase both UTSA’s and SwRI’s
research-funding base with cross-campus collaborative programs. The program encourages
interaction between investigators in support of the acquisitions of established
extramural, peer-reviewed research funding. This agreement provides unprecedented
opportunities for researchers to work together in addressing issues of mutual interest and
need. The combined contributions of the two organizations are $125,000, of which UTSA will
dedicate $50,000.
Proposal Deadline: April 6, 2022
The Brain Health Consortium (BHC) Collaborative Seed Grant (CSG) program, sponsored by the
Office of the Vice President for Research, Economic Development, and Knowledge Enterprise
(REDKE) at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), is offering seed grants to
support collaborative research at UTSA. These grants support a broad range of
trans-disciplinary research that may yield fundamental insights into the mechanisms
underlying brain disorders. It is anticipated that 2 grants of $15,000 each may be
awarded.
NOI Deadline: February 21, 2022 and Proposal Deadline: March 9, 2022
