Colleagues-
Salutations! I want to share (again) with you some information about a new class that I am
offering this summer. The course is entitled C&I 7153 Critical Multicultural Education
(CME) in Urban Settings and it will have its inaugural offering in Summer 2017 L Session
(July12-August 09<http://airmail.calendar/2017-07-12%2012:00:00%20CDT>). This course
is designed for anyone with an interest in Critical Theories/Pedagogies, Multicultural and
Social Justice Education, and Culturally Relevant Pedagogies. We will spend our time
engaging with foundational readings and current research in the field of CME as well as
allowing each student to connect this work to their current and/or aspirant contexts as
educators and school leaders.
As we approach the end of the semester and we are advising graduate students for their
summer course load, please consider this course as a suggestion. If you know any graduate
students in your programs that you think would benefit form such a course please share
with them the attached flyer or have them direct their inquiries in an
email<mailto:zaid.haddad@utsa.edu>. Have a great rest of the week and thank you all
in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Haddad

“Tell them about how you’re never really a whole person if you remain silent, because
there’s always that one little piece inside you that wants to be spoken out, and if you
keep ignoring it, it gets madder and madder and hotter and hotter, and if you don’t speak
it out one day it will just up and punch you in the mouth from inside.” –Audre Lorde,
recalling her daughter’s words of advice.
