UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AND CREATIVE INQUIRY SHOWCASE DAY--APRIL 24th

Dear COEHD Faculty,
This is a reminder about our first annual UTSA Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry Showcase Day, a University-wide event designed to engage undergraduate students in the Discovery Process and the Creation of New Knowledge.
I am delighted to provide you with information about this first-ever Research Day! It should be an educational experience for all-participants and attendees, as well, who will all have an opportunity to interact about research in an informal manner and at their own pace.
Undergraduate students may work with masters, doctoral students, and faculty, or alone, on a research project that is presented on this Extraordinary Showcase Day. We are hoping for a great College of Education and Human Development participation in the research event.
When: April 24, 2014, Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Where: North and South University Center Ballrooms and indoor/outdoor walkways
Deadlines to note: April 11, 2014, Friday Proposal On-line Submissions are due
April 7-15, 2014 Invitations sent to Presenters

April 1st is the Deadline for submitting poster information and having a poster prepared
for the Research Day by the Office of Undergraduate Research, free of charge.
Plans are underway to prepare an electronic collection of abstracts of all of the research studies that are presented
which will be available for UTSA and beyond.
This is a great opportunity for involving students and creating discipline-based and interdisciplinary
student- faculty research collaboratives!
Consider bringing your classes to the UTSA Research and Creative Inquiry Showcase and offering extra
credit for attendance and participation!

Registration is now open for the 2014 UTSA Heart Walk. The event is open to all faculty, staff, and students and will coincide this year with National Walking Day on April 2, 2014.
Please consider joining fellow walking enthusiasts and participating in the 2014 UTSA Heart Walk. Participants raise funds by asking family, friends and co-workers to sponsor them. Sponsors can pledge a flat donation, or participants can track donations via the Heart Walk Pledge Form and Registration Packet. The Heart Walk will take place at all three campuses simultaneously between 11:00 am to 2:00pm on April 2, 2014. If you cannot participate in the Heart Walk, but still wish to contribute, please consider pledging to anyone you know (or find someone) who plans on walking. All funds raised will be donated to the American Heart Association.

The link above and the attached registration packet will provide information for this year's walkathon event being co-hosted by the President's Advisory Committee (PAC) for the UTSA State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) and the UTSA Wellness Committee. Conceived of four years ago by the PAC as a way of promoting the SECC, this annual event raises more contributions and sees more participants with each and every year!!

Dr. Daniel Corcos, Professor of Kinesiology and Nutrition, Neurology, Psychology and Bioengineering and Director of the Neural Control of Movement Laboratory, University of Illinois at Chicago
Daniel Corcos obtained his Ph.D. (1982) in Motor Control from the University of Oregon after obtaining his Master's Degree in Psychology in l980. He did a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Department of Neurosurgery at Rush Medical Center from l983-l987. Dr. Corcos was an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago from l987-l993, was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure in l993, and to Full Professor in l997. He is also a Professor of Bioengineering, Physical Therapy and Neurology.

Dr. Daniel Corcos, Professor of Kinesiology and Nutrition, Neurology, Psychology and Bioengineering and Director of the Neural Control of Movement Laboratory, University of Illinois at Chicago
Daniel Corcos obtained his Ph.D. (1982) in Motor Control from the University of Oregon after obtaining his Master's Degree in Psychology in l980. Dr. Corcos was an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago from l987-l993, was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure in l993, and to Full Professor in l997. He is also a Professor of Bioengineering, Physical Therapy and Neurology. From 1994-1995 he was a visiting research scientist at the Institute of Neurology in London. He was selected for membership in the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education in 2001. He has been involved in teaching 4th grade children neuroscience through the Global Village program in Oak Park. He has served on NIH study sections since 1994 and was the Chair of the Musculoskeletal and Rehabilitation Sciences Study Section at NIH from 2003 until 2006. He was the Executive Editor of the Journal of Motor Behavior from 1996 to 2004 and is currently the Editor for Rapid Communications. He is also on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Neuroengineering and Rehabilitation.

Stolen Education, a documentary, at UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures March 9 2014 from 2-4 pm

Hi, everyone.
Some of you may recall that UTSA hosted the documentary, Stolen Education, to a packed house at the Downtown campus in September 2013. Dr. Enrique Aleman’s research about a key legal case involving Latino children and access to education was very well received but many people wrote later to say that they had not been able to attend.
In response to this ongoing interest, the Institute of Texan Cultures is bringing the film back for a free showing this coming Sunday. Please share this information so that those who were not able to attend (adults, children, elders) learn about this new opportunity. I am attaching a copy of the ITC flier and below is a link to the facebook page with the same information.
