Subject: Floor Captain Program
I want to encourage each of you to promote the Floor Captain Safety Liaison Program (see attached) within your respective areas. Floor Captains are critical to campus preparedness and safety, whereby they receive training on evacuation/shelter-in-place procedures, assist persons with disabilities via the Evac-chair, serve as the eyes and ears of public safety within our community, as well as promote crime prevention awareness and active shooter preparedness.
As a brief update of the program, we currently have 206 active Floor Captains across all three campuses. The UTSA Office of Emergency Management was recently awarded a grant through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, whereby the program has the capability to train up to 100 new and returning faculty/staff volunteers over the next two years. Let's take advantage of this excellent opportunity and further encourage our employees to join the program and make UTSA the safest campus to work, live, and learn.
If anyone in your area is interested in joining the Floor Captain Safety Liaison Program, please have them contact the UTSA Office of Emergency Management at x6851 or by email at BePrepared(a)utsa.edu<mailto:BePrepared@utsa.edu>.
Thanks!

Subject: Active Shooter Training for Main Building Employees - July 22, 9:00 am - 10:30 am
Main Building Colleagues,
On August 19, 2014, the UTSA Police Department and Office of Emergency Management will be conducting a training exercise in the Main Building involving an active shooter scenario. During the exercise, the entire Main Building will be asked to respond to the evolving "incident" by practicing your office emergency procedures. In preparation for the exercise, we are offering the following training session and highly encourage all directors, supervisors, faculty and staff to attend (RSVP to BePrepared(a)utsa.edu<mailto:BePrepared@utsa.edu> or to Tracy Merritt at x6851):
· Tuesday, July 22, 2014 - 9:00 am - 10:30 am, Main Building - Regent's Room, 3rd Floor
This employee training will provide valuable awareness information about what happens during an incident of this nature, how you can be prepared, and what to do if a real situation ever arises. Please share with everyone in your office who conduct university business in the Main Building, including those who teach or work part-time in this facility. Everyone should print and complete the attached registration form and bring with them to the training - print legibly as this information will be printed on participants certificate of completion. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact me at your earliest convenience.
Preparedness is everyone's responsibility, therefore let's join together and promote a safe environment for Roadrunners to work, live, and learn. Thank you for your participation!
