Dr. Donovan Fogt is in need of hundreds of male and female students healthy enough to walk between the ages of 18 and 65 years old. He, and his research team, are conducting a study about how the body responds to conditions such as exercise, and what factors may contribute to heart disease. They are creating a large data repository to answer questions related to cardiovascular diseases. They will: collect information about your physical activity, health, depression and mood; collect samples of urine, saliva, and blood for testing hydration status and biomarkers associated with cardiovascular disease; measure your body's heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing in response to exercise, standing, and during a special breathing test; measure your level of physical capacity, strength and balance. The entire procedure will take approximately 4 hours of your time. You will a body composition (body fat %), waist-to-hip ration, and body mass index report for your participation. There is no monetary compensation. All procedures will take place at the UTSA Main Campus in the Integrative Cardiopulmonary and Autonomic Performance Laboratories (ICAPL) located in the Physical Education and Multidisciplinary Studies Buildings. Congenital heart experts have successfully integrated two common imaging techniques to produce a three-dimensional anatomic model of a patient's heart. This is the first time the integration of computed tomography (CT) and three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (3DTEE) has been used in this way. A proof-of-concept study also opens the way for these techniques to be used in combination with a third tool -- magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Eight of Texas' largest school districts say they do not plan to serve fried foods or soda despite a recent statewide policy change allowing them to do so. "Despite the reversal, we believe the healthy changes that have been made to our school menus remain in the best interest of our students," said Melissa Martinez, a spokeswoman for El Paso's school district. Recently I heard something I don't hear every day - a former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, telling a crowd of 800 people that he believes our nation's diplomats and development professionals need to lead the way in the world.
Admiral Mullen declared: "We have been leading with the military for far too long. We need to get diplomacy, development, fiscal, economic, financial, educational tools out in front... We cannot kill our way to victory. It's not going to work."

* Last year's Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi's inspiring call to action to "make the world better for our children" by investing in global education and reminding us that "every single minute matters"
* Battling political strategists Paul Begala and Bill Kristol sharing a laugh that our issue is one thing they actually agree on while reinforcing that isolationism is not a path to victory for 2016 candidates
* Kicking off our Capitol Hill day (where we held more than 175 meetings) Representatives Tom Emmer (R-MN) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) - both who recently traveled to Africa with me - reminding the Summit Leaders just how critical their voices were in protecting the International Affairs budget
It was a remarkable few days, but made even better when Congress took action on some important legislation<http://action.usglc.org/site/R?i=ZJkRhUqF9Jn4QVNoL3eJLQ>: the introduction of a House bill that could bring electricity to millions in sub-Saharan Africa, and the completion of the bipartisan African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which I had the honor to see signed into law at the White House this week.

Who would have known how poignant that was at that time. As I reflect back on our remarkable 20 year journey, I am very proud, and humbled, of the impact we have had together, yet absolutely clear on the challenges ahead.
