The President's Distinguished Diversity Awards are annual awards that bestow the highest level of recognition to individuals or groups for work that helps the UTSA community think about and practice diversity and inclusion in creative and collaborative ways.
The nomination period is now open for the 2018 UTSA President's Distinguished Diversity Awards. Faculty, staff and students (individuals and groups) are eligible to be nominated for this award. President's Distinguished Diversity Award recipients will be recognized at the University Excellence Awards Ceremony on April 19, 2018.
Two faculty/staff awards of up to $1,000 will be given; one to an individual and one to a group.
Two student awards of up to $500 will be given; one to an individual and one to a group.
These awards especially seek to recognize efforts to engage the UTSA community in cross-cultural activities to demonstrably extend their knowledge of communities different from their own and/or to enhance their multicultural competence for working with diverse communities at UTSA, San Antonio, Texas, and beyond. In this sense, we envision the awards to not simply reflect and encourage service to our diverse community, although doing so is sufficient for nomination. Ideally, the awards will also advance UTSA's academic mission to produce multiculturally experienced community members who then become the country's multiculturally skilled and inclusive professionals and leaders.
For this particular award, the department or college does not vet nominations. As such, we are simply asking for your support in sharing this information with the faculty in your colleges.

All nomination packets must contain the following materials for Phase I review:
1. A completed application form (6 pages maximum) (attached)
2. A CV that emphasizes teaching accomplishments (maximum: 15 pages)
3. Written statement delineating their philosophy of teaching (maximum: 3 pages, 12 pt. font).

Dear COEHD Faculty,
The U. T. System is seeking nominations for the 2018 Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Awards. Per Steve Leslie, Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, “The awards will recognize faculty who deliver the highest quality of undergraduate instruction, demonstrate their commitment to teaching, and have a history and promising future of sustained excellence with undergraduate teaching.” Tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-track award recipients will receive $25,000 each.
The University of Texas at San Antonio will submit a cadre of tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-track/adjunct nominees for consideration of the award. Therefore, each college will submit a maximum of the following numbers of nominees:

* Nominees must have at least three years teaching experience at the university level.
The nomination of strong candidates who may already have received teaching awards or teaching award nominations is encouraged.
Below you will find the COEHD timeline for the submission/review process. As you can see, the timeframe is very tight and the awards are quite large. Therefore, it is important that we adhere to the timeline.
The nomination process will be conducted in two phases:
Phase I:
Nomination packets should be submitted to Laura Earleywine (laura.earleywine(a)utsa.edu<mailto:laura.earleywine@utsa.edu>) in the COEHD-Office of the Dean no later than 8:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017.

Phase II
In January 2018, UTSA ROTA Selection Committee will determine the university's Phase II cohort of nominees who will develop a full e-portfolio to be submitted in March for consideration at the UT System level. 2018 Spring Scholarship - Office of Undergraduate Research / Deadline: Nov 17, 5PM

Colleagues and Friends of the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR):
I would appreciate your help in posting the attached flyer and recruiting applicants for the 2018 Spring Scholarship offered by the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR).
The OUR Scholarship will support undergraduates who perform research with a faculty mentor during the 2018 Spring Semester. Scholarship recipients will receive $1,000 upon completion of the project. We expect to award up to 15 scholarships, pending availability of funds.
Students should apply for the scholarship at the link below. To apply, students must:
1. Have an overall GPA ≥ 3.0;
2. Be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours);
3. Have a faculty mentor and an endorsement letter from the mentor;
4. Have a project planned or underway with a mentor at the time of application submission.
The submission deadline for scholarship is November 17, 2017 (5pm).

Dreamers 101 Faculty Trainings - How to be a Dreamers Ally

As you may know, President Eighmy has expressed support for our DACAmented students on campus in light of this administration's decision to rescind DACA. In an effort to create a safe and intellectually nurturing space for all of our students, the Student Center for Community Engagement and Inclusion, in collaboration with International Student Services, is offering "Dreamers 101" trainings where faculty can learn about UTSA resources to support DACA and undocumented Roadrunners on campus.
