Dietetics faculty, students participate in UT Health San Antonio caregiver program<http://education.utsa.edu/spotlight/article/dietetics_faculty_students_pa...>
[Caregiver presentation]
Students and faculty from the Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD) in the Department of Kinesiology, Health, and Nutrition, helped facilitate the Caring for the Caregiver program through the UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing. Dr. Liset Leal-Vasquez (pictured), dietetic director and assistant professor in practice, has presented a workshop once a month since March on nutrition management for caregivers as part of the program's three-hour skills training. Senior students and nutrition faculty recently participated in the virtual dementia tour. The Caring for the Caregiver program aims to provide hands-on training for caregivers working with individuals with dementia. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) will be performing maintenance to the UTSA network from 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 28th to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 29th.
During this time, customers utilizing the UTSA wired and wireless networks to access network resources may experience intermittent network interruptions within all buildings.
We are conducting network maintenance to expand the capability of campus network services. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve network services at UTSA. OIT supports the vision of UTSA’s Strategic Plan.

Portion of the BRG Sidewalk Closed Aug 1 - 17<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/portion_of_the_brg...>
A portion of the sidewalk located in front of the Welcome Center and north of the BRG along Devine Avenue will be closed from August 1, 2018 until August 17, 2018, for repairs to the garage’s exterior wall. The closure, cordoned off with construction fencing, will not affect access to the garage and Welcome Center as walking paths will remain open for use. For additional information, please reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.
SU Oval Drop-off Closed July 30 – Aug 3<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/su_oval_drop_off_c...>
The oval located off University Center Drive and north of the Student Union (SU) will be closed to vehicular drop-off traffic from July 30, 2018 until August 3, 2018, for work to refurbish the Fiesta Dancers sculpture. The SU north exterior doors and sidewalks will remain open and available for use during this time. For additional information, please reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Services Center at 458-4262.

Dodge-Clay, a veteran educator and author of the book “Synergistics,” has spent much of her career in San Antonio’s Northside Independent School District. She was principal of Leon Springs Elementary School from 1998 until retirement in June 2017. She has taught graduate classes at the University of Texas at San Antonio, while also coaching and mentoring other educators.

The State Employee Charitable Campaign, the state program for workplace giving and an easy way for employees to support their favorite charities, will be hosting an online silent auction with a twist! This year organizers are asking staff and faculty members to donate arts, crafts, services or time to be auctioned off to another employee. Items already donated include:
The UTSA Art Collection is offering coffee, a tour, and discussion of many of the key pieces in the collection.
Facilities is offering a tour of the solar panels atop the Student Union.
Hopefully, they will be adding music and art lessons (and artwork!) from other departments.

Facilities Project - Core Buildings Chase Panel Replacement Project<http://education.utsa.edu/awards_announcements/article/facilities_project...>
The Facilities Project Management team is overseeing a multi-year project to replace the chase panels in all of the original core campus buildings.
The JPL was selected for the first phase since a project was already ongoing in the Media Center and because there are less patrons in the library during the summer months.
Work began on the 2nd floor of the JPL last week. Thirty chase panels are scheduled to be replaced during this phase and associated noise will include drilling and sawing. Crews will be working in the JPL during the morning hours through August 15.

Chicago schoolteacher Kimberly Bermudez has always been the chatty type. So when she was on a Southwest Airlines flight to Florida to visit her parents last week, and her seatmate asked her what she did for a living, she told him about her first-grade students, all of whom come from low-income families. The NCAA® Division I Men’s Basketball Committee announced today that San Antonio will be the site for the 2025 NCAA® Men’s Final Four®. San Antonio was one of seven cities vying for the marquee event in 2023-2026 cycle, including Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, North Texas and Phoenix. San Antonio has hosted four Men’s Final Four’s, most recently this past spring.

The UTSA community will notice changes to several buildings on the UTSA Main Campus over the coming weeks. Today, the UTSA University Center complex is officially the UTSA Student Union (SU) and UTSA H-E-B Student Union (HSU). The Physical Education Building also has been renamed the Intercollegiate Athletics Building (IAB).

Liliana Patricia Saldaña, a professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio, is part of the Texas ethnic studies struggle. “[It] sounds like Tucson is trying to make MAS irrelevant, whereas the program that was banned was rooted in Indigenous and decolonial epistemologies,” she said, adding that while some programs can be relevant, they can still, ultimately, be assimilationist. This has always been the prevalent aspect “in the culture of US schooling,” and not necessarily the goal of impacted communities.

I want to update you on our Associate Dean positions. We had an incredibly talented group of applicants for the open positions. They had a strong focus on UG and Graduate student success, aligned with institutional priorities. This was a wonderful finding and it has assisted with my plans to develop leadership capacity within the college. I have worked with the Provost's Office to develop a Faculty Assistant Dean title. This structure allows mid-career faculty to work with the Associate Deans in the respective areas to (1) help with work distribution, (2) create a representative group ( faculty on assignment at the Associate and Assistant Dean levels from the COEHD) working on college and institutionally aligned initiatives, and (3) build leadership capacity through mentoring and development of mid-career faculty.
Please join me in congratulating the following colleagues and wish them well in their new roles:

Dr. Alberto Cordova ( KHN), Assistant Dean for Student Success

I would like to announce that Dr. Juliet Ray, Director of the College of Education and Human Development Research Service Center, will be leaving UTSA. She has accepted a remarkable post at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). Please join me in congratulating Dr. Juliet Ray as the new Director of Grant Services for the School of Education at JHU. While it is particularly sad to see Juliet leave us, we are also overjoyed that she will have this excellent opportunity to further her professional career. COEHD’S research has advanced because of Juliet’s pre- and post-award leadership, her passion for research collaboration, organization and administration, and her dedication to the university.
I would like to personally thank Juliet and express my sincere gratitude for her devotion and many contributions, as she has been a valuable member of our RSC team since 2010. Her skills have made a significant impact on a variety of research functions across the College and the UTSA campus. It has been a tremendous pleasure working with Juliet, as I am sure you will all agree. Although we are sorry to see her go, we wish her the very best of success in her new adventure. Juliet’s last day will be August 14th, please be sure to say farewell and well wishes. Thank you, Juliet, for your professionalism and dedication towards us and the rest of the UTSA community.

Dear COEHD Faculty and Staff:
I would like to announce that Dr. Juliet Ray, Director of the College of Education and Human Development Research Service Center, will be leaving UTSA. She has accepted a remarkable post at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). Please join me in congratulating Dr. Juliet Ray as the new Director of Grant Services for the School of Education at JHU. While it is particularly sad to see Juliet leave us, we are also overjoyed that she will have this excellent opportunity to further her professional career. COEHD'S research has advanced because of Juliet's pre- and post-award leadership, her passion for research collaboration, organization and administration, and her dedication to the university.
I would like to personally thank Juliet and express my sincere gratitude for her devotion and many contributions, as she has been a valuable member of our RSC team since 2010. Her skills have made a significant impact on a variety of research functions across the College and the UTSA campus. It has been a tremendous pleasure working with Juliet, as I am sure you will all agree. Although we are sorry to see her go, we wish her the very best of success in her new adventure. Juliet's last day will be August 14th, please be sure to say farewell and well wishes. Thank you, Juliet, for your professionalism and dedication towards us and the rest of the UTSA community.
