This program is an institutional priority as a component of Dr. Eighmy’s Research Excellence Initiative<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.utsa...>, and any faculty who are selected for an award are eligible for an institutional incentive program<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fresearch....>. She wants to ensure that you have the resources needed to be as successful as possible. This year, the Office of Research Support (ORS) is offering some targeted proposal development service options that you can select from, specifically for this program. They understand that each of you have individual needs and their hope is to provide services based on them. AERA-SRCD Early Career Fellowship in Middle Childhood Education and Development

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the Society for Research on Child Development (SRCD) are pleased to issue a Call for Applications <https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2FAERA.info...> for the AERA-SRCD Early Career Fellowship in Middle Childhood Education and Development. This fellowship provides a two-year collaborative opportunity for early career scholars to participate in a research network focused on middle childhood education and development. This Fellowship begins at the upcoming SRCD Biennial Meeting (March 21-23) and continues at the AERA Annual Meeting (April 5-9). This joint effort will capitalize on the knowledge, skills, and research expertise of senior scholars across child development and education research. The application deadline is February 11. Mentored Research Career Development Program

Sent on behalf of the San Antonio Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center The Pepper Center is soliciting RL5 Scholar applications for the Mentored Research Career Development Program. SA OAIC will have one or two new 12 month mentored research RL5 Scholar positions with a potential for 24 months of support contingent upon the successful renewal of the SA OAIC award. ILT Department Chair Search Update

Dear Colleagues, It is with great pleasure that I announce the completion of a successful national search for the next ILT Department Chair. Based on the recommendation of the search committee and with approval from the Provost, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Ann Marie Ryan has accepted the position and will begin July 1, 2019. Dr. Ryan holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Education at Loyola University, Chicago. She was also appointed through the Provost's office as the School Partnership Coordinator and has served as the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the Faculty Director of Accreditation, and Program Chair (equivalent to Department Chair) in the Department of Teaching and Learning, as well as serving as Graduate Program Director. Her most recent publication (2019), Teaching, Learning, and Leading with Schools and Communities: Field-based Teacher Education, her work on educator preparation re-design and strong clinical preparation and accreditation of educator preparation programs underscore the types of background and skills we have been seeking in a successful leader to fill this critical position in COEHD. I look forward to her arrival! Dr. Ryan will be visiting several times between now and her start date. I will send information about the schedule so that she can begin to meet with programs and work on transition with Dr. Schutz and the department. I want to thank Dr. Sullivan and the ILT Department Chair Search Committee for their tireless efforts and diligence throughout the process. I also want to thank Dr. Paul Schutz for his leadership of the department this year. I look forward to Dr. Ryan's work with ILT and the college. Dear COEHD Faculty: There are two Institute of Education Sciences (IES)-funded training institutes with deadlines coming up in March including the : Cluster-Randomized Trials workshop<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ipr....> and the Meta-Analysis Training Institute<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.meta...> For the Cluster-Randomized Trials workshop, its description indicates that its goals are for participants to: * Describe the principles underlying randomized experiments and their advantages for making causal inferences. * Understand the hierarchical structure of populations in education (students nested in classes nested in schools) and its implications for study design and analysis of data. * Select appropriate measures for assessing outcomes, describing implementation fidelity, and capturing process variables. * Acquire knowledge and strategies for designing and conducting a cluster-randomized trial. The Application deadline is 8pm EST on Friday, 3/29 For the Meta-analysis Training institute, it is designed for researchers interested in conducting IES (Goal 1) meta-analyses of important research topics. The goal is to train researchers in state-of-the-art advanced meta-analytic methods. These methods are less commonly taught in courses and workshops. Application deadline is Tuesday, March 12th.
