he University of Texas at San Antonio will host its second annual ExploreSTEM@UTSA event to increase access to San Antonio students living with disabilities. The event will be presented by the UTSA Departments of Computer Science, Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching, and Geological Sciences.

ATE’s Summer Bridging Institute returns for 18th year

The Academy for Teacher Excellence (ATE) is hosting its 18th Summer Bridging Institute, virtually starting today through the 15th, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. As the name suggests, the Summer Bridging Institute (SBI) was originally intended for teacher candidates set to begin their first year of teaching and helped bridge the gap between student-teacher and teacher. Over time, the SBI has expanded, now serving as a full professional development institute for teachers of all experience levels.

Four Roadrunners win Fulbright awards to travel abroad

Four recent UTSA graduates have been awarded grants by the Fulbright U.S. Student Program<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Futsa.us...> to travel to Germany, Spain and Belarus in 2022. This year’s UTSA awardees are Amber Chin, psychology and English; Arlae Gamez Luna, political science; Monica Guerrero, interdisciplinary studies with EC–12 special education certification; and Taylor Helmcamp, global affairs.

NASA will host public meeting to discuss its recently issued request for information<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.fed...> (RFI), entitled "Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities in NASA Programs, Contracts and Grants" on Tuesday, July 13, starting at 1 pm eastern time.
The RFI is part of NASA’s Mission Equity, a comprehensive effort to assess agency programs, procurements, grants, and policies, and examine what potential barriers and challenges may exist for communities that are historically underrepresented and underserved.
The public meeting will begin with opening remarks from NASA Administrator Bill Nelson and other agency officials and guests who will discuss the many ways the public can participate in NASA’s mission. This portion of the event will air live on NASA Television, the agency’s website<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nas...>, and the NASA app<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nas...>.

MAS Digital Archives: Supporting the Innovative Teaching of Mexican American Studies Content in K-12 Classrooms

The Smithsonian Institution, the MAS Teacher's Academy, the Intercultural Development Research Association (IDRA), and UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) invite you to participate in a two-part workshop designed to support the innovative teaching of Mexican American Studies in K-12 classes. The program will feature authentic digital cultural resources from the ITC (a Smithsonian affiliate) and the Smithsonian’s digital collections to aid you in developing and enhancing your MAS curriculum.
The two workshops will take place virtually on:
Monday, July 26th, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Friday, July 30th, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
* Participants who register must attend both workshops. Part I will include an orientation to using resources from the ITC and the Smithsonian Learning Lab. Part II will be a curriculum workshop where participants will share a digital collection that draws from museum resources. This two-part program is limited to 20 teachers who will receive a $250 stipend upon completion of both workshops and creation of a digital collection for the Smithsonian's Learning Lab. Teachers will also earn 3 Continuing Education Units for each workshop.
This program received Federal support from the Latino Initiatives Pool, administered by the Smithsonian Latino Center.

Summer of Resilience Screening and Panel Discussion

In collaboration with the City of San Antonio Metro Health’s Office of Violence Prevention, join TPR on July 8 from 1:00pm to 2:30pm CST for the second of four monthly online screenings of the docu-series Raising of America, followed by panel discussions. Topics cover childhood, education, trauma and building resilience.
The focus of the July 8 episode includes investing in high-quality early care and education.
