AERA promises to hold an Undergraduate Student Research Training Workshop and is calling for Proposals. This will be held April 13, 2023, Thursday through April 15, 2023, Saturday, at AERA in Chicago, IL. See guidelines below. Deadline for proposals is Tuesday November 15, 2022.
AERA is looking for junior and senior scholars to hold workshops for Undergraduates. It would be great to see UTSA faculty conducting training sessions. IF I can be of assistance, please be in touch with me.

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) is pleased to announce the AERA Undergraduate Student Education Research Training Workshop<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Flinks.st...>. The workshop, led by junior and senior scholars, will give fellows an overview of how education research is designed across fields, how quantitative and qualitative research methods are used in studies, and how research is applied to education policy and practice. Senior researchers and faculty from both academic institutions and applied research organizations (i.e., The American Institutes for Research, Educational Testing Service, the College Board, and the Urban Institute) will introduce education research as a field and share their area of expertise and knowledge with the fellows. In addition to attending the workshop and participation in the poster session, fellows will attend pre-selected paper sessions and presentations during the 2023 Annual Meeting in Chicago. Fellows are required to participate in all Workshop events and the invited poster session to present their research during the 2023 AERA Annual Meeting in Chicago.
Dates: The Workshop activities will take place April 13-15, during the 2023 AERA Annual Meeting in Chicago.
Award: The award includes AERA Annual Meeting registration and two nights of lodging. The fellows and/or their home institutions are responsible for transportation costs to and from Chicago. Most meals are part of the Workshop activities.
Eligibility: Underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities and women are encouraged to apply. Candidates may come from a broad range of fields across the arts and sciences. Candidates must:
* Be students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of college in good academic standing.
* Be interested in pursuing a graduate or professional degree that can lend itself to education research areas such as children and youth, school and schooling issues, higher education, education policy, student achievement, curriculum and instruction, education psychology, or education leadership.
* Have current or ongoing research that can be presented in a poster session.
* Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident or a non-U.S. citizen attending a school in the U.S.
All materials must be received by 11:59 p.m. (PST) on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

I am forwarding the October 2022 Research Development & Grant Writing Newsletter by Academic Research Funding Strategies, LLC. The newsletter is provided through a subscription by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Economic Development, and Knowledge Enterprise (REDKE) solely for the use of the UTSA community. Although you may share it with your students, please do not post it on a public website or disseminate it outside the UTSA community.
The October edition features articles that might be of interest to COEHD faculty about National Endowment for the Humanities and National Institutes for Health funding including how to contact NEH program officers and how to develop a concept paper (white paper). There are also resource links on topics such as “The Workforce Diversity in the CHIPS and Science Act”; “NSF Strategic Plan”; and “Leading the World in Discovery and Innovation, STEM Talent Development and the Delivery of Benefits from Research - NSF Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years (FY) 2022 – 2026.”

Effective Preparation Framework Input Survey - Speak Now

This is comparable to the Effective Schools Framework<https://texasesf.org/> TEA developed earlier. While covered in a velvet glove, the inherent danger is that it will be the basis for future regulations. If you think greater government regulation of our program is a good thing, then remain silent. If you want a voice in the document behind the regulations that will effectively limit or constrain how you prepare educators, then now is the time to speak.

Dear EPP Legal Authorities, Back-Up Legal Authorities, and Primary Contacts,
On behalf of the Texas Education Agency, I want to invite you and your faculty/staff to provide feedback on the current draft of the Effective Preparation Framework<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftea.tex...> (EPF). Developed over the past year with a wide range of stakeholders, this framework was created in response to a desire from the SBEC and the field to define a Texas vision for high-quality teacher preparation and support EPP continuous improvement. Please see the recent SBEC agenda item<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftea.tex...> that provides context on the EPF and the stakeholder engagement to date.
The current draft of the EPF consists of five foundational levers, which, taken as a whole, can help EPPs ensure novice teachers are well-prepared and have demonstrated the knowledge and skills necessary to improve the performance of the diverse student population of Texas:
* Candidate Recruitment and Admissions;
* Curriculum;
* Training and Support;
* Progress Management and Candidate Development; and
* P-12 Partnerships.
Within each lever, a set of 2-5 Essential Actions describe what the most effective EPPs do to support powerful teacher preparation, and for each essential action, key practices define high level performance with specificity.
The EPF content validation survey [linked here<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftea.co1...>] offers you and your faculty/staff the opportunity to examine and provide feedback on the EPF. Specifically, you will be asked to indicate the extent to which you believe each essential action and set of key practices, respectively, reflect high-quality teacher preparation practices that Texas EPPs should strive to consistently demonstrate. There will be space at the end of each lever to provide a narrative response if you have additional comments or questions on the essential actions or key practices in that section. We encourage you to review the draft EPF document (linked above) before completing the survey.
We expect the survey to take 30 minutes to complete. Please submit your responses by October 26, 2022.
Please forward this message on to your preparation program's faculty and staff for their participation and input via the EPF content validation survey.
