Communities in Schools Research Survey
by COEHD Faculty Research
Dear Colleagues,
Communities in Schools<https://www.communitiesinschools.org/> (CIS) has reached out to COEHD and HCaP to look for ways to partner on research projects in particular areas. This is a great opportunity to analyze data that will help to inform CIS projects and allow them to articulate outcomes. CIS focuses on providing students with holistic communities of support, so their work impacts schools, families, and children. The partnership HCaP on these initiatives make it a good opportunity for cross-disciplinary work.
As a first step, CIS has provided us with a couple of broad topics they are working on, and we are working to align faculty interests with these areas. Once we have gauged interest, we will have a charrette-type event in April wherein faculty can mingle, discuss ideas related to these areas, and form interdisciplinary teams.

The UTSA REDKE Office of Research Support sends us the following faculty development opportunity.
UTSA has received an invitation from UT Health to participate in VIVA Science SA Conference, April 9th at the Witte Museum.
Viva Science SA is a free and family-friendly event that is designed to enlighten, engage, and excite people of all ages in the San Antonio community by displaying science in an entertaining fashion. The event features a distinguished speaker, interactive science booths, a science fair with posters by local scientists, science-themed artwork, food trucks and much more.

Congratulations, Dr. Langman. I'm sad you are leaving UTSA but happy for your accomplishment. Wishing you much success on your new endeavors, knowing you will make great contributions in moving the university forward. I have great memories of your work back at Gus Garcia when you were doing a research study and I was the principal there. I also hold dear to my heart your encouragement for seeking my doctorate at UTSA rather than at A&M College Station when you heard I was going to apply. You also provided a letter of recommendation on my behalf which I am forever grateful.

It’s with mixed feelings that I notify you that Dr. Langman, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies has accepted a position with Kennesaw University as their new Dean of the Graduate College. Dr. Langman has been integral to COEHD and our graduate studies program. She joined UTSA in 1998 as a faculty member in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies and has served as associate dean of graduate studies in COEHD since 2016. Dr. Langman also served as Interim Dean for COEHD from January 1 – August 1, 2021.
Dr. Langman devoted herself to this institution for 22 years and leaves a lasting impact within and outside the college. To put this in greater perspective, her time at UTSA accounts for almost half of UTSA’s existence – fascinating. All would agree Dr. Langman played a pivotal role in building the reputation and stature of this university. Over her career, she’s proven to be a superb researcher, a passionate advocate for students, and a very capable leader.
While her departure is a sizable loss for the COEHD community and UTSA, I know she will thrive in her new position as Dean of the Graduate College at Kennesaw State. We wish her the very best as she begins a new chapter.

FTT Experience & Promotion Survey

Hello COEHD Community:
I write this afternoon as one or the co-chairs of the FTT Subcommittee of the COEHD Super-Committee that is working on the college-wide guidelines to govern promotion and tenure, specifically we are looking at Fixed Term Track Faculty Promotion.
The subcommittee would like to hear from as many of our Fixed Term Track colleagues as possible about what they are doing in their current position and their experiences with the promotion process over the last two cycles since the new HOP 2.50 was implemented at the university level.
Anyone who holds a full or part-time position as a FTT faculty member (Lecturers, Sr. Lecturers, Assistant Professors of Practice/Instruction, plus many other possible titles) is invited to submit a response to the survey. Responses are collected anonymously; however, you may provide your contact information at the end of the survey if you would like the subcommittee to follow up with your regarding your response.
The survey will take about 7-10 minutes to complete and will be open all week until Noon on Saturday 3/13.
