Reminder: CB research survey
by Sharon Nichols
Hi colleagues,
I am following up to ask that if you have not completed this survey, that you do so. It won’t take long.
If you do any type of research in which you work with someone in the community to carry out the project (clinics, schools, non profit agencies), please fill this out. One goal is simply to understand WHERE we carry out our research work….but also to understand the nature and type of relationships we may build/activate in the process (and also what supports you may need should you want to start this kind of work).
I will close the survey out end of day Wednesday November 8.
Also—if you DID fill it out but thought of something to add, fill it out again and add that information
https://utsa.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_7O4eISGwwqmlBX0
if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Thanks so much, Sharon

VYGOTSKY COURSE SPRING 2024
by Rosalind Horowitz
6 November 2023
Dear COEHD Colleagues,
I am writing to inform you of the LTED 7863 Vygotsky Course offered on Mondays on Zoom, Spring 2024. This course will be of interest to
Masters and Doctoral Students and with advisor approval, can be taken by motivated Undergraduates and Honors Program students.
The course addresses the life of the eminent Lev Vygotsky, in the social-context of Russia and Ukraine at the turn of the 20th century.
We will consider Vygotsky's theories, research, and possible practices that draw from his views of language, culture, art, human development,
and critical thinking. I am seeking students across Colleges, Programs, and Disciplines to create a highly cross-disciplinary and interactive
classroom dialogue. Students in the sciences and Engineering may also benefit from the knowledge provided.
Faculty or Students should fee free to contact me, should there be questions.
The course is offered once per year. It will be a dynamite addition to UTSA student-formulated research and Degree plans.
All my best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving!

It provides advanced surveys of scholarship on the histories of world and child writing and literacy; interconnections between writing, reading, and speech; digital writing; writing in communities; writing in the sciences and engineering; writing instruction and assessment; and writing and disability. A section on international measures for assessment of writing is a new addition to this compendium of research.
