Richard S. Howe Faculty Excellence in Service to Undergraduate Students Award
Purpose of Award
The Richard S. Howe Faculty Excellence in Service to Undergraduate Students Award was established in 2002 through a gift to the university by Mrs. Walter W. McAllister Jr. and is named in honor of longtime engineering professor Richard S. Howe. This award is presented to full time faculty (fixed-term track, tenure-track or tenured) who have shown exemplary commitment towards UTSA undergraduates. The recipients of this award must have demonstrated a strong commitment to service to undergraduate students, served as an advocate for undergraduate education, and engaged in activities to promote student access and success. This award is for service outside of normal instructional activities
Eligibility
Nominees for the Howe Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award must be full-time faculty members with at least three years of service at UTSA and may be either tenured/tenure-track or fixed-term-track faculty. Recipients of the award are eligible for re-nomination after a five-year period, but are not eligible for nomination the year immediately following their previous win.
Nomination Materials
A selection committee composed of faculty will review nomination packets. The nomination packet for this award will consist of only the following, assembled into a single PDF file in the order indicated:

2. A letter of support from a peer faculty colleague, department chair, or college leader
3. A narrative statement from the nominee addressing:
* Describe how the nominee(s) demonstrated exemplary commitment towards serving undergraduate students. Please provide specifics.
* Describe how the nominee(s)' efforts are in addition to his/her (their) daily work responsibilities in serving undergraduate students.
* Describe how the nominee(s)' effort made a significant impact in improving how UTSA serves undergraduate students.
4. Two letters of support from current or former students that describe the experience and emphasize its impact.
5. CV of nominee
Richard S. Howe Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award
Purpose of Award
In recognition of former UTSA College of Engineering professor and mentor Richard "Dick" Howe and with support from community leader and philanthropist Edith McAllister, this award recognizes UTSA tenured, tenure-track and fixed-term-track professors for developing signature learning experiences for undergraduates.
Signature undergraduate experiences include creative applied or experiential learning beyond the traditional classroom environment.

1/29 6-7pm Summer 2024 Summer Study Abroad Information Session

This upcoming Summer 2024 5-week Session 1(May 28-July 2) there will be a study abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico (3.5 weeks abroad June 1st-June 25th) exploring Culture, Language, and Education open to ALL students in COEHD. Course credits will count towards education degrees. You will learn directly from expert teachers at a premier dual language school in Guadalajara! You will go to the University of Guadalajara, Hospicio Cabañas, Tlaquepaque… and more!

It is with mixed emotions that I announce that Frances Sanchez, COEHD communication & development coordinator, will be leaving her position on January 19th. During her brief time with us, Frances has played an important role in building a more effective communications infrastructure for the college. We benefitted from her creativity and thoughtfulness and wish her well in future endeavors. The process to hire a new communication & development coordinator will begin immediately.

As Student Development Specialists for COEHD Graduate Programs, Jay and Michelle have truly kept the college running for the past 6+ months and continue to do so. As new employees earlier this year, they were the only two SDS's representing 6 departments: Counseling, Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching (ILT), Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS), Bicultural Bilingual Literacy (BBL), Educational Psychology, and Race, Gender and Sexuality Studies (REGSS). They got a new supervisor recently who they helped train on top of their many duties. While we are working our best to grow our team, they are still the only two current SDS's managing critical responsibilities for each of our departments including degree audits, admitting new students, fielding questions from prospective students, attending recruitment events, meeting with students, tracking milestones and processing all forms for the college- and they do it all with a positive attitude. They have even gone above and beyond in helping organize and improve processes that were in huge need of improvement. In addition to meeting the high demands of their role, they have made a significant impact on improving the morale and culture within the team and college. They have built strong relationships with both students and faculty across the college and we have received nothing but excellent feedback across the board. Their work has had a huge impact on our students and we hope that they know just how appreciated they are!
