ROTA Faculty Nominations

Good afternoon COEHD Faculty,
It is that time of the year to start selecting nominees for the Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award (ROTA). The awards are a symbol of the importance placed on the provision of teaching and learning of the highest order. The awards are offered in recognition of those who serve our students in an exemplary manner and as an incentive for others who aspire to such service. Please have your nominations submitted to COEHD.dean(a)utsa.edu<mailto:COEHD.dean@utsa.edu> for the ROTA award by February 15, 2024. At this time a nomination name and brief description as to why the individual or yourself is nominated. Please do not send nominations directly to faculty awards, as there is a new process in place. Faculty Success will notify selected nominees to prepare application materials for phase two of the process.
Nomination Criteria
* The ROTA program will focus on a commitment to teaching and delivering excellence to the learning experience through outstanding teaching including effectiveness, innovation, and creativity.
* Potential indicators of excellence in teaching include, but are not limited to, the demonstrated enhancement of student learning through:
* Developing innovations that are responsive to student needs.
* Pursuing effectiveness, innovation, and creativity in the classroom, clinic, or setting in which teaching and learning take place.
* Demonstrating the use of strategies that actively engage the learner.
* Creating opportunities for experiential learning.
* Using technology effectively.
* Adapting teaching methods to improve teaching and learning.
* Striving to learn and improve one's own teaching.
* Being a leader in teaching and learning by having a positive impact on their colleagues' teaching.
Eligibility
* Both tenured/tenure-track and non-tenure-track candidates are eligible.
* Educators at the undergraduate or graduate level, including faculty supporting professional degree programs (i.e., J.D., M.D., M.Arch, etc.).
* Faculty who have not previously received a ROTA award.

Information Session 1/25- Finland Study Abroad Program

Hi everyone,
This Summer 2024 there will be a study abroad in Jyvaskyla, Finland during the 5-week Session 1, May 28-July 2. Finnish Foundations: Early Childhood Education Study Abroad is a 2-week abroad trip where students will have the opportunity to have exposure to Finland's high-quality education system, enrich students' perspectives on education and potentially inspire new teaching and learning methods upon their return. This opportunity is open to ALL students in COEHD. Course credits will count towards education degrees. You will learn directly from expert teachers at Early Childhood Forest Schools in Jyvaskyla. Students will also go to the University of Jyvaskyla where they will take part in a course for international students titled, Education in Finland. Fun explorations and excursions will also be a part of the program.
This study abroad program in Finland promises a transformative educational experience, combining academic excellence with cross-cultural immersion. There will be a virtual information session on Thursday January 25th 5-6pm if you want to learn more.

Cinnamon Schulze is a 15-year administrative professional with a history of working in higher education and nonprofit organizations. Her experience includes office administration, project management, corporate event planning, file management, and human resources. She previously worked the University of the Incarnate Word as the administrative assistant to the Dean for the Dreeben School of Education and served as an administrative coordinator for Southwest Research Institute. She looks forward to transferring from the Northwest Vista College to the University of Texas at San Antonio to seek a degree in Business Administration.
